Dear Future Host Family,

My name is Lorelei, I am 17 years old, and I hold both U.S. and German citizenship. I am currently a straight-A student with a strong passion for childcare, creativity, and cultural exchange. From a young age, I’ve been drawn to caring for others, and I am thrilled at the opportunity to become an au pair in Austria or Germany.

One of my biggest motivations for becoming an au pair is my desire to explore new cultures and immerse myself in everyday life in a German-speaking country. I believe that living with a host family is a truly special way to experience a new culture while building meaningful connections. Additionally, this experience will allow me to further develop my German language skills and continue growing in my ability to care for children in a nurturing and engaging way.

I believe your family should host me because I am respectful, responsible, and deeply committed to the well-being of the children in my care. I take pride in being clean, organized, and dependable. I approach every task with a positive attitude, and I strive to bring joy, empathy, and creativity into everything I do. Whether it's helping with homework, playing games, or organizing fun activities, I always do my best to create a safe, encouraging, and fun environment.

I am confident that I qualify for this position due to my extensive experience with younger children. Since the age of 11, I’ve been involved in babysitting, tutoring, and working at summer day camps. These opportunities have helped me develop a deep understanding of how to support and guide children in both educational and playful settings.

Experience

While I have not yet worked as an au pair, I have several years of experience caring for children in a variety of settings, which I believe has prepared me well for this role. Since I was 11 years old, I’ve taken on responsibilities such as babysitting, tutoring, and helping run activities at day summer camps. These experiences have taught me how to build trust with children, stay calm under pressure, and create a positive and engaging environment where they feel safe and supported.

Although this would be my first official au pair position, I am very excited and eager to begin this journey. I see being an au pair not just as a job, but as a unique opportunity to live with and support a family, learn about a different way of life, and become part of a new culture. I’m especially drawn to working abroad because it allows me to experience daily life in Austria or Germany while improving my language skills and deepening my understanding of the local traditions and values.

Becoming an au pair combines two of my greatest passions: working with children and learning about other cultures. I am enthusiastic, open-minded, and ready to embrace this new chapter with responsibility and care. I’m truly looking forward to creating meaningful connections with a host family while contributing positively to their home and their children’s lives.
