Letter to the family

I'm Thais Gomes, I'm twenty years old and I live in Sorriso, Mato Grosso. I was born in Sorriso MT, I was born and grew up in this wonderful city.

Mato Grosso is known for its beautiful natural landscapes, such as Cuiabá, like the Chapada dos Guimarães, is one of the mystical places most visited by tourists. Mato Grosso is a state in which the Amazon region is concentrated and has unimaginable beauties.

Cuiabá is the capital of Mato Grosso, a large city with about 607,153 inhabitants. The Cuiabá economy has the highest income among diversified companies. There are several shopping centers in the city, such as Pantanal Shopping, Shopping Três Américas, Havan and many others. There are several international industries, most notably FS Bioenergia, an American multinational that produces ethanol from corn stalks.

I live in the São Mateus district, a very quiet area where there is a lot going on at weekends. I live with my father, Antonio and my sister Tamires.

I am currently working as an administrative assistant, I am a university student at the IFMT - Federal Institute for Education, Science and Technology of Mato Grosso - Campus Sorriso, I have a degree in Technology in Environmental Management in the Environmental Management course, my duties at home are dishwashing, room cleaning, yard cleaning and cook.

My daily routine during the week is to get up to work at 4:30 AM I work part-time in the administration of a petrol station company. I go to work at 5.50 a.m. and arrive at 6.30 AM, my schedule is at 7 AM., but I start my work earlier, I advance the day's tasks to help other employees. I walk to work every day, I don't have my own vehicle, but I don't get tired of working to make my dreams come true.

My daily routine is different on weekends. On Saturdays I wake up at 7:30 AM, at 8:00 AM, I do my homework, help clean the yard and do things, in the afternoon I go to rest for an hour and at night I help with homework.

The school year here in Brazil starts in early February and ends in late December, and in July we have a thirty day break. We cannot choose our subjects at school. All students in the same class take the same subjects. And we don't change the classroom according to the subject, the teacher who enters and leaves the classroom. The grades are divided according to the number of exams. The different topics throughout the year. This year my subjects are inorganic chemistry, technical drawing, ethics, instrumental analysis, environmental impact, physical geography, management and degraded areas.

I love the part about protecting the environment in terms of nature and especially the Amazon.

I love animals so I have no problem if my host family has a pet. And when it comes to food, I like fruits and vegetables. I like coconut, pepper, tomato sauce, ketchup and mustard. I love chocolate, rice, beans, pizza, spaghetti, popcorn, potato chips, chicken nuggets, meat, brigadier, cheese bread, hamburgers.

I think a strong side of my personality is my charisma, I am always cheerful, I am loving, intelligent, sincere, reliable, brave, calm and reserved. One weak point is being afraid of something or something, or making mistakes, I don't admit mistakes.

In my opinion, the main goal of the stay abroad is the opportunity to exchange knowledge and culture of my home country, Brazil and the host country. I will have the responsibility to represent Sorriso - Mato Grosso, Brazil, to show you our culture, politics and economy and to give you a new vision of Brazil. The program will bring me many other benefits, such as Learning to speak a new language fluently, which is part of the country's culture, taking on more responsibility, becoming more mature, becoming more independent, making new friends, a new family and others. I think it does a lot to educate a citizen. So that's what I hope from my exchange, I hope for an unforgettable experience.

See you soon,

Sincerely yours,

Thais Gomes
