Letter to the family

Hello!

My name is Joshua, and I am a 24 year old from Sydney, Australia.

I have a bachelors degree in Arts (International Relations) from the University of Sydney, and am currently finishing my Law degree there also.

Apart from Australia where I grew up, I also lived in China for 17 months in 2023 and 2024 as a New Colombo Plan Scholar (a scholarship given by Australia's foreign ministry), where I studied Chinese law and Mandarin.

I will be graduating from my Law degree in May, and would love to spend the time between then and the start of my graduate job in early 2026 working as an au pair in Europe and learning about Europe's various cultures.

Experience

I have more than 5 happy years of experience as a supervisor and academic tutor at a prestigious boarding school in Sydney, where I have looked after boys ranging anywhere from 11 to 18 years old.

In that role, I have had to exercise a duty of care towards up to 50 boys at a time, maintaining levels of discipline in the boarding house (especially with keeping beds made and rooms tidy!), providing pastoral and emotional support, taking boys out for activities such as playing basketball or football, or on outings to the beach, etc. I also tutored boys completing their final year of High School in legal studies and English.

That role also requires that I have a "Working With Children's Check" certificate from the Australian government, and that I complete regular training on child protection.

Given these experiences, I believe I would be a suitable and qualified au pair for any family, being able not only to provide a high quality standard of care, but also the emotional, educational, and co-curricular support that is so important in children's development. In addition to simply providing care for your child/children, I could teach them how to play various sports, such as basketball and swimming, help them with their homework and provide tutoring, and even teach them Mandarin!
