Letter to the family

Dear Future Host Family,
I am Sydney, a 24 year old artist, caregiver, and tutor. I grew up in Florida, where the weather is warm and people are friendly, with very diverse communities and healthy lifestyles. (We eat and grow a lot of fruit here!)

I am a high-spirited, enthusiastic care giver who has been working professionally with children ages 3-16 for over 5 years. I am a confident driver with a clean record and am eager to share outings with your family! I have worked with special needs adults and children for 3 years and have provided guidance counseling for elementary age students in summer school. I am known for my patience and genuine caring.

My specialty is working with children to improve their English skills and foster creative thinking-a must in the current economy! I believe engagement with the arts and a healthy body and mind help support a child's success in formal education. Success in these three areas create balanced, emotionally intelligent children who are better behaved and more able to effectively communicate.

I have lived in Shanghai and Hong Kong with local families and have a passion for learning. As a part of your family, I am excited to share your culture and experiences and I hope to help raise your children to be globally-minded citizens. My hobbies include language learning (I would love to study the language of your country!), drawing, and going for walks/hikes. I love to spend time in nature.

I look forward to meeting you!
Thank you,
Sydney

Experience

My work and educational background align closely with the needs of families seeking Au Pair and Tutoring services.

I began instructing day camps and lessons for STEAM (science-technology-engineering-art-maths) summer programs when I was 17. Through this experience I have developed a repertoire of fun activities and an understanding of pedagogical teaching techniques. I also served as a guidance counselor, helping children cope with the emotional difficulties of class, friendships and discipline.

From 2016-2019 I was employed by my university to privately tutor Chinese and Korean-speaking university students in English speaking and art. During this time I also worked with special needs students on goal setting and homework help.

I was accepted to the 2020 Japan Exchange and Teaching Programme prior to the COVID-19 pandemic.

In addition to this experience, in winter 2019 I received my Teaching English as a Second Language certification and an official Teaching License from the state of Florida in 2020. I have been teaching online with companies such as IDTech (digital art and computer skills) and VIPX (English for Chinese students) throughout 2020.

I have traveled annually for work, study, or extended vacations with my family for my whole life. I feel as comfortable abroad in a new environment as I do in my own home, and I am excited to live abroad again as part of your family.
