Letter to the family

Dear Future Host Family,

My name is Flora Mae, a 23-year-old licensed professional teacher from the Philippines. I am currently living in The Hague as an au pair, where I continue to learn, grow, and embrace the beauty of Dutch life and culture. I come from a warm, close-knit family and have always found joy in caring for others—whether as a teacher, tutor, babysitter, or helping hand at home.

I chose to become an au pair because I believe in the value of cultural exchange and the deep connections it creates. Being an au pair allows me to offer genuine care and support to a family while learning about their traditions, language, and way of life. Living in the Netherlands has been a beautiful experience so far, and I would love to continue this journey with a family that shares warmth, openness, and trust.

During my time in The Hague, I have become confident in handling the daily tasks that keep a household running smoothly. Each morning, I walk the dog and feed it, then prepare lunchboxes, bags, and water bottles for the children. I unload the dishwasher, clean the table, and reload it after meals. I also make the beds in all rooms, including the parents’ room, and take care of the laundry—washing, ironing, and folding clothes, uniforms, blankets, and bedsheets.

In addition to these tasks, I regularly vacuum and clean the house to keep the environment tidy and fresh. Whether it is the kitchen, living area, or bedrooms, I do my best to maintain a clean and cozy space for the whole family. I also help set the table for dinner, babysit, play with the children, and engage them in fun craft activities. In the evenings, I prepare the kids’ rooms with water bottles and warm pouches—including those in the host mom’s room—to make sure everyone feels comfortable before bedtime. I also support the family by pet-sitting and walking the dog whenever the host mom is not around.

I believe I would be a great addition to your family because I am responsible, adaptable, and kind. My background as a teacher and my experience here in the Netherlands have taught me how to manage responsibilities with love and consistency. I am someone you can rely on—not just for daily tasks, but as a positive and respectful presence in your home.

Thank you for considering me as your future au pair. I look forward to the opportunity to meet you and possibly become part of your family’s daily life.

Warm regards,
Flora Mae

Experience

I am currently an au pair in The Hague, Netherlands. Each day, I help keep the home clean and organized by vacuuming, doing laundry, ironing, and making beds for both the children and the parents. I also prepare lunchboxes, clean dishes, walk and feed the dog, and assist with dinner routines. I play with the children, babysit when needed, and do creative activities with them. This experience has helped me grow more independent, responsible, and flexible.

I would like to continue as an au pair abroad because I enjoy cultural exchange and being part of a family in a different country. Living with a host family allows me to learn more deeply about their lifestyle and values while sharing my own culture in return. I believe each family I live with will help shape me into a more well-rounded, understanding, and confident individual.
