Letter to the family

Dear host family, I am Ilenia, I am a young Italian woman who likes reading, doing crafty activities and spending time in nature. I would like to become an Au Pair to have the opportunity to keep practicing the languages I speak beside my native one. I would like to experiment life in another country in a shared environment, where I can build meaningful relationships. After becoming an educator I have worked with children between 8 months and 17 years old. I had my longest experience with children from 6 up to 11 years old. I find working with children very stimulating especially when collaborating with adults who are open minded and as enthusiastic as me about guiding them in their growth. My studies have allowed me to understand infants psychology better, I have always found my academic knowledge really useful but I always seek more information when there are complicated situations or doubts, in that case I prefer to talk it through with the parents and decide how to act together. I am patient, attentive and kind, clean and tidy, I can cook, I am used to doing all kinds of chores and I learn fast when needed.

Experience

When I was studying at university I worked as a nanny for three months with a three year old girl, I used to play with her, read to her, help her with personal hygiene and sometimes I cooked and gave her breakfast or lunch. During my studies I did two apprenticeships that lasted around 3 months each. The first one was in a daycare with children from 6 months up to 3 years of age, I mostly worked with the 2-3 years old because being the first experience they preferred introducing me to the most fragile ones later. I used to help them eat and clean themselves, I also changed their diapers when needed, I read for them and organized educational activities.
My second apprenticeship was in a social center where I worked with children and teens from 8 up to 17 years old that came from disadvantaged socio-economical contexts. I helped them with their homework, played with them and helped them share their experiences.
After graduating I started working (for six months) as an educator in an elementary school. My job was to help all the classroom understand and keep pace with the lesson, and find ways to maintain an inclusive and loving environment. Most times there were children with special needs I worked with to reach their specific academic and social goals.
I had a month experience in a daycare that consisted pretty much in the same things as my first apprenticeship.
I also worked as an educator in a summer camp and as an animator for a short amount of time.
