Letter to the family

Dear Host Family,
My name is Austėja and I come from a small country in Europe called Lithuania. I am very communicative, friendly, thoughtful, hard-working, open-minded, active, creative human being. During my free time I love to read, play the piano, meet my friends, volunteer, go to the museums, watch some movies, football matches and learn the french language.
I grew up with two other siblings and I am the oldest one so taking care of the kids is not a new experience for me. I have a brother, he is 15 years old and even though he is old enough to take care of himself, my mother always say that I am the one who is responsible for him. It’s probably because he is a diabetic and as a young, energetic boy sometimes he forgets to take care of himself properly. Then I have a sister, she is 8 years old (10 years younger than me) and has a down syndrome therefore she requires much more attention than any other kid. However, I feel like I am the luckiest person to have a sister like her because she taught me a lot of things about myself. For example, I can be very patient, I can find a lot of strength in myself explaining things over and over again and try to understand what a kid wants me to say when it is hard for him to put it into words. Finally, I really appreciate all the hard work my parents do. They gave me the best opportunities to education, to finding out my hobbies and seeing the world, getting to know other cultures. Before the corona the whole our family travelled a lot with the car. I think I have seen more of France than some French people because I have been in France for 5 times and never in the same place. The result of those trips - I fell in love with the country, with the people, with the language and I am very open to the idea of finding more! Also the reason why I would love to do my aupair experience in France is that after I graduate the school, I would love to study there.
Now talking about my experience with the kids. As I have already mentioned above about taking care of my siblings, I also would love to add that I have volunteered at several kids’ camps. The school that I go to every year makes camps for the kids (age 11 – 13) and older students have a possibility to volunteer there and be a part of the beautiful experience. I am very grateful that teachers invited me to take a part at these camps because during my time there, not only I have to come up with the interesting activities and fun games but I had 5 kids that was my team and I had to find a way to connect with each of them individually. However, my school camps are not the only camps that I had an opportunity to take care of the children. Furthermore, I have participated at some kids’ camps organized by the church. The kids age was between 2 years and 14 years and they were come from very different backgrounds (some of them did not even have parents or have felt loved by someone), so those experiences really helped me to grow up as a person and appreciate the love that the closed members of my family give me every day.
My personal motive for participating in “aupair” program is that next year I am finishing school and I will have to try to build my life on my own. Before that I need some experience of living without my parents help and I think that this program would really provide me with some useful knowledge of living on your own abroad. Moreover, I am very motivated to be an aupair nanny for the kids because my experience tells me that children never stop surprising you and they can really help you to find out some things about yourself that you could never find out on your own. The most important thing that I have learnt during those camps is that there is no “one rule” that you could apply for all children. All of them are very different and all of them needs various things but it is very important to be honest and never forget that communication is the key. I will give 100% of myself to make those kids happy and to learn something new. I will play with them and share my knowledge. I hope I will become a friend to them that will help to be the best version of themselves. And for the fact I know that they will teach me a lot of things too so I am very keen to this experience.
Sincerely,
Austėja.
