Dear host family,

My name is Gift, and I am currently 25 years old. I am an au pair in Belgium and have been lucky to be a part of a wonderful host family who can provide a reference for me. My main responsibility here is taking care of two children, aged 3 and 6. My contract will end in early September 2023.

My day starts early at 7 am, I prepare lunch boxes for the children to take to school. These lunches usually consist of simple foods such as sandwiches, fruit, or omelets. After completing these tasks, I spend some quality time playing with the children before they leave for school and help them get dressed. The children return from school at various times throughout the week. For instance, on Monday, Tuesday, and Friday, they usually come back around 5-6 pm, while on Wednesdays, they have a half-day. On those days, I take care of household chores such as laundry, hanging clothes to dry, folding laundry, occasionally changing bedsheets, putting away dishes, tidying up children's toys, and doing light cleaning. Sometimes, I also assist with cooking, although the host mother typically handles most of the cooking duties.

When the children return from school, I prepare snacks like fruits for them. If they come back late, I set up the dinner table for them, and we enjoy some playtime together. We engage in various activities like drawing, cycling, and playing in the sand. Occasionally, when the host parents need to go out for dinner or have a night out, I put the children to bed. This happens once or twice a month. On Saturdays, I work full days, and as a family, we participate in outdoor activities or attend parties. I also occasionally assist in taking care of the host's friends' children.

Before becoming an au pair, I worked as a preschool teacher and also provided private tutoring in Thailand. Consequently, I have gained extensive experience in taking care of children. I am highly adaptable and prepared to adjust myself to any kind of work schedule.
