Letter to the family

Dear Future Host Family,

My name is Riley! I’m a 23-year-old from the United States, and I recently graduated from the University of Georgia with a degree in journalism, a minor in political science, and a certificate in news literacy. I’m a warm, responsible, and curious person who loves connecting with others, especially through cultural exchange.

My passion for international experiences runs deep. In 1969, my grandfather founded the University of Georgia’s oldest and most beloved study abroad program in Cortona, Italy. Over 55 years later, the program is still thriving, and in the summer of 2023, I had the privilege of participating in it myself. That summer changed my life. I left Cortona not just with amazing memories, but with a genuine sense of belonging. I truly felt like a part of the town, and the experience deepened my love for global connection and community.

For over two years, I served as an International Centers Student Ambassador at UGA, where I helped other students pursue study abroad programs, including the very ones in Cortona, Italy, and Oxford, England. Encouraging others to take those life-changing opportunities was incredibly fulfilling, and it made me even more excited to live abroad again myself, this time not as a student, but as a helpful, trusted member of a host family.

Although I haven’t worked as an official Au Pair yet, I have extensive experience with children through babysitting, tutoring, and helping younger family friends. I’m patient, fun, and dependable, and I always strive to create a safe and positive environment for kids. Whether I’m helping with schoolwork, engaging in creative play, or just being a steady presence in their day, I take that responsibility seriously and with heart.

I would be honored to become part of your family. I’m ready to offer kindness, reliability, and genuine care, while also sharing my own culture and learning from yours. I believe being an Au Pair is about so much more than childcare, it’s about mutual respect, growth, and connection.

Experience

While I haven’t officially worked as an Au Pair yet, I have plenty of experience caring for children through babysitting, volunteering, and helping out with younger family friends. I’ve always enjoyed being a positive, dependable presence in kids’ lives, whether that’s helping with homework, playing games, or just being a good listener.

I want to become an Au Pair abroad because I genuinely love the idea of cultural exchange. Living with a host family offers such a special opportunity to learn about another way of life while also sharing my own culture and values. I believe it’s a meaningful way to grow personally, build lifelong connections, and gain a deeper understanding of the world around me. Plus, spending time with kids brings so much joy and energy, it’s hard not to smile around them!
