Letter to the family

I am a 23 year old female who graduated from the University of Georgia in 2024 with a degree in Linguistics and minor in American Sign Language. Over the past year I have been working at an afterschool program with kids from preschool-8th grade. I was also taking a few extra classes during that time so that I could apply for graduate school programs to become a Speech-Language Pathologist and was accepted to start this fall. With having to start school again in the fall I would only be able to Au Pair for the summer. I have always loved working with children and getting to watch them grow and learn. I want to continue to work with them this summer and was hoping to be able to AuPair abroad because I love to travel and see new places, but I need to save up for school so I can’t be spending all my money just yet. I also love the idea of being immersed into a new culture, I would have studied abroad in college if it hadn’t meant I would graduate late. My love for children is what carried me to want to be a Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP aka Speech Therapist). I plan to work with young children after graduating from my program in two years. I am quick to adapt and learn new things which will be beneficial as an au pair and learning a new place and how the children interact with each other and others. I am bound to be excited about every little adventure I get to take the children on, probably even more excited than they will be. I am enthusiastic, but not overly loud so I won’t be hard to adjust to having around. I have been trusted to babysit since I was around 11 and have always been considered extremely responsible. Working in an after school program over the last year has given me experience with a diverse group of children who vary widely in age. I learned quickly how to keep everyone entertained while under control and how to sprinkle in learning experiences in the middle of having fun. I know my enthusiasm for learning about new places and passion for helping children grow will make me an excellent Au Pair.

Experience

I have no prior experience as an Au Pair or a Nanny, but I have worked in childcare for the past year and have babysat countless times before that. When thinking about what I wanted to do for work this summer I kept going back to being a Nanny or babysitter because it is the most similar to what I have been doing since last August. I love to travel and learn about new places and I have the summer off of my job and school and wanted to take this time to see more of the world while I can, but I can’t quite afford to travel all summer and come back to start paying for school. Therefore, an Au Pair or Nanny abroad seems to be perfect for me! I would get to work with children and be able to see and learn about a new part of the world.
