Job Description
The job mainly contains running the household and taking care of a 40 year old lady.
Because of this we’re excited to share an Au Pair opportunity that’s a bit unique. Unlike the traditional Au Pair role, where you might become a fully integrated member of the family, this position is designed more like a professional job with comfortable accommodation provided.
While you’re more than welcome to join us for some family gatherings and activities, we want to be clear that this role maintains a professional focus. We look forward to working with someone who appreciates this balance!
Another essential aspect to be aware of is that due to sensory issues, the job may occasionally feel solitary and boring. There may be times when there are no specific tasks to perform, but rather your presence is required. It's important to be comfortable with silence, however wearing headphones during most tasks is permitted.
Here are some job details:
Expectations:
1. The Au Pair will be required to perform:
- Assistance with all possible self-care as needed (such as but not limited: helping out with showering, brushing hair, shaving, make up, cutting nails, etc).
- Preparing, cooking (if applicable) and serving the our drinks and food.
- Engaging in (social and creative) activities during working hours.
- All possible housework such as but not limited: cleaning bathrooms, grocery shopping, laundry, taking out the bins, bringing away packages, vacuuming, dusting, gardening, snow removal, and driving can be part of your daily routine.
- When visitors, including minors, are present during working hours, they are also under the care of the Au Pair.
2. The Au Pair is expected to manage the mental load associated with running a household and caring for the individual(s) under their care. This includes taking responsibility for planning, organizing, and maintaining an overview of household operations independently.
3. Cleaning and tidying up the Au Pair’s own upstairs space, as well as washing and ironing of own clothing. These aren't paid hours.

Other relevant things:
- We live in a city in the North of the Netherlands. It's not a big and a 'where it's all happening' city. We're 2 hours away from Amsterdam. Public transportation is about a 10 minute walk. And nature is around the corner.
- We live in a (most of the time) tidy house. It's a 'two under one roof house'. We basically live downstairs, although my husbands office is upstairs. You'll be living mostly upstairs.
- I suffer from various health conditions that mainly effect my balance and sensitivity for stimilu. Using my hands triggers my symptoms, that's the main reason I need help.
- My personality is very easy going but my symptoms make that a lot of things come precisely.
- We work a lot with a Google Agenda and a Drive folder. Almost all of the tasks are written down, placed over the week.
- I don't think it's a hard job but I do understand that it can be boring at times. So if you need a lot of talking and company, this job might not be what you're looking for OR you have to be able to find your own activities and people outside working hours.
- It's worth mentioning that my delightful 5 nieces and nephews (aged 9-16) visit often and love spending time in our home. They're also under your care during working hours.
