Welcome Letter to the Au Pair

We are a family of 3 - the dad works full-time, the mum stays at home, and we have a 2-year old active boy. We live in a town near London in a traditional 400-year old English cottage. The train from our town takes you into central London in 35 minutes. So you will have the best of both worlds - access to big city life in London and the traditional English country life.

We are looking for someone to help with our little boy for 25 hours a week and pocket money will be £150 a week. You will help in the morning or in the afternoon so the mum can do chores and run errands (e.g. buy groceries, cook, go to the dentist or gym, etc). You will also be expected to babysit once a week - either in the evening during the week or one afternoon at the weekend.

You will have your own room and bathroom, sole access to a car, and access to your own living room if you want to have privacy / alone time - otherwise you are always welcome to join our family in the main living room of course!

UPDATE: countries we look for
We are open to people from any country to join our family, but we are looking for a minimum of 9 months stay for an au pair. We are therefore restricted by visa requirements. If you are already in the UK with a valid visa or an EU-settled or pre-settled status, we'd love for you to apply. If you are not already in the country, please can you make sure you are from a country that is eligible for an AuPair visa (e.g. Tier 5 Mobility scheme or UK Ancestry visa). Thank you.

Job Description

Total hours are 25 hours per week, paid at £150 per week. The weekly schedule consists of 3 parts:

1) On most days during the week, the Aupair helps in the mornings to get the child ready for the day and plays with the child in the evening while mum cooks dinner. This is for 2 and 1/2 hours total.

2) On some days during the week, the AP has the child in the morning or afternoon for another 3 hours. During that time, you can play with the child at home, take him to the playground, or kids' classes or playgroups, or go on a nature walk.

3) Once a week, the AP babysits the child on a weekday evening or weekend afternoon for 3-4 hours.

Total hours are 25 hours per week. As the mother does not work and the child is too young for school, we can be a little flexible about your schedule if you need to keep specific times free (to attend an English class for example) or if you wanted to go travelling over a long weekend.

You will have pocket money of £150 a week, plus all your food and free train travel into London on Mondays, Fridays and weekends. No work on public holidays, 4 weeks holidays per year.

An example weekday would be:

7.30-9am help child get ready and eat breakfast.
9-11.30am take child to playgroup or kids' class
11.30am-12pm prep and give lunch to child.
Free time until 5pm
5pm - 6pm play with child while mum cooks dinner.
Free time after 6pm

In terms of cooking, you are expected to prepare breakfast and an easy lunch on the days where you have the child at those times. Dinner will generally be cooked by the parents.

Other help not related to kids will be with small household duties. Since we will all be sharing the house, everyone is expected to chip in. We have a cleaner once a week for the main cleaning but the main living area / kitchen needs to be kept tidy since the family spend most of their time there. Nothing major - quick 5 min hoover, tidying up the kitchen, un/loading dishwasher, tidy up after child, put laundry away, emptying the bins. These are extra responsibilities of the AP and all other family members. We all do our bit and participate as well. It's just common sense that everybody in the house keep it tidy.
