Welcome Letter to the Au Pair

A continuacion puedes leer cartas de anteriores au pairs:

Hello future au-pair!
I’m T. Z. from Turkey. I would like to share my experiences with you in case you have some doubts. First of all, you will meet dedicated parents in this family who really have a good level of patience and who spare a good amount of time for their children. So, you don’t have to keep an eye on the boys the entire day. During the weekdays, the two boys go to school and come back late in the afternoon. They need a sleep when they come home. After that, I would advise you to chat with the elder one in English or do some activities together. What he needs is someone he can play with meanwhile speaking English all the time. Because he is very keen to learn this language; he likes to repeat the sentences you teach him. So when he is in a good mood it is easy to have fun with him. Though he can be a bit difficult to communicate when he just wakes up from his siesta. but he gets over that snappishness if you show a little patience.
Bertín, the litte one, is so cute and doesn’t tire you a lot because the parents take care of him most of the time.
Apart from these, Baltanás, the town they live in is small, but there many young people and bars where you can hang out if you get bored. The family is also okay with giving you a lift to Palencia when you need something (if he have time). You are allowed to travel to other cities at the weekends. Also, I can assure you that you will meet great people here if you decide to come. They are incredibly sincere, affectionate and friendly. Especially, if you are interested in Spanish language and culture, the parents is so willing to teach you anything and make sure you are happy in Baltanás. I can say that I enjoyed my stay a lot in this family and did not want to return home but I had a job to continue in my country, so I had to. Lastly, I would definitely recommend this family if you want to become an au-pair in Spain.

-Future AuPair-

I worked for the Rodriguez-Mate family in Baltanás from October to December 2017.
Luis Julio & Patricia truly wanted me to comfortable and happy while I was there and if I needed anything all I had to do was ask. The town is small and rather quiet during the wintertime. People my age came to see their families on weekends and during holidays. I quickly made friends that invited me to go out and do different things with them an the weekends. Everyone I met in Baltanas was welcoming and kind. I even paired up with some locals and we did a language exchange on Thursday nights (1 hour in english and 1 hour in Spanish).
I would highly recommend doing this. Luis Julio & Patricia also helped me with my spanish constantly, correcting me and answering my questions in great detail.

My main responsibility here was teaching Telmo English. Since he is still young the only way I could correct him was through repetition but he is a fast learner. Instead of organized lessons we played and went for walks while speaking English. He seemed to really enjoy baking. The parents let you choose which activities you want to do with him as long as you are speaking English.

I took care of Telmo every weekday for 3 hours. I was also in charge of both Telmo & Bertin in the morning, getting them ready for school and making sure that they at the breakfast. When he didn't have to work, Luis Julio was there helping me. At night, after a bit of freetime, I helped make dinner and put the kids to bed with Patricia.

All in all I learned a lot and the work was fair. The family was very accommodating and I admire the effort that they make to teach their children English.
