Job Description
We are seeking a reliable, energetic, and caring nanny/au pair to join our family and provide care for our 7-year-old child. The role will involve both childcare and light household duties, with a focus on creating a positive, engaging, and safe environment for our child. This position is ideal for someone who is passionate about working with children, has a nurturing personality, and is excited about becoming an important part of our family dynamic.
Responsibilities:
Childcare:
Supervise and engage in activities with our 7-year-old child. This includes playtime, homework help, arts and crafts, outdoor activities, and imaginative play.
Ensure the child’s safety at all times, both indoors and outdoors.
Assist with morning routines (e.g., getting dressed, breakfast) and evening routines (e.g., bedtime, reading stories).
Plan and organize fun and educational activities based on the child’s interests and needs.
Encourage good behavior, social skills, and respect for others through positive reinforcement.
Household Duties:
Light housekeeping related to the child, such as tidying up after activities, doing the child’s laundry, and ensuring their room is organized.
Prepare healthy and balanced meals and snacks for the child, as well as assisting with feeding as needed.
Occasionally help with school runs or transportation to activities (if applicable).
Occasionally run errands related to the child (e.g., shopping for clothes, picking up school supplies).
Working Hours:
Flexibility may be required depending on the family’s schedule or additional events/activities for the child.
Skills and Qualifications:
We are looking for a candidate who possesses the following qualities and skills:
Childcare Experience:
Previous experience working with children of similar age is essential. Experience as a nanny, au pair, or babysitter is highly preferred.
Ability to engage children in a variety of activities and encourage them to learn through play.
Positive Attitude and Patience:
A calm and patient demeanor is crucial, especially in moments of transition (e.g., morning routines, bedtime).
Ability to manage a child’s emotions and encourage good behavior with positive reinforcement techniques.
Communication Skills:
Strong communication skills, both with the child and with the parents.
Ability to listen and understand the child’s needs, and communicate any important updates or concerns with the parents in a timely manner.
Flexibility and Adaptability:
Comfortable with a flexible schedule and the ability to adapt to the family's needs.
Open to taking on new tasks as required by the family.
Creativity:
Ability to come up with fun, educational, and creative activities that keep the child engaged.
Interest in activities such as arts and crafts, reading, cooking, outdoor sports, etc.
Safety and First Aid:
Basic first aid and CPR certification (preferred, or willing to complete before starting).
Ability to handle emergency situations calmly and effectively.
Organizational Skills:
Ability to manage the child’s daily schedule, including activities, meals, and other commitments.
Help maintain a tidy and organized space for the child.
Cultural Sensitivity and Language Skills:
An interest in learning about and adapting to the family’s cultural background or environment.
If applicable, knowledge of a second language can be an added bonus (e.g., English and Spanish).
Preferred (but not essential):
Valid driver’s license and the ability to drive the child to activities, school, or appointments.
Knowledge of any additional child development techniques or educational approaches (e.g., Montessori, Waldorf, etc.) would be a plus.
