Welcome Letter to the Au Pair
We are a family with three children (aged 2, 6, and 9). We have been married for 15 years and hold German, Portuguese, Brazilian, and English citizenships. We are looking for a household employee starting at the latest in March 2025, who would ideally stay with us for at least 12 months, preferably 24 months, in Berg, located in the canton of Thurgau, Switzerland (15 minutes from the beautiful Lake Constance and Germany/Konstanz). We live in a large house with a garden.
Your Tasks (Household and Childcare):
You will prepare breakfast from Monday to Friday at 7:00 AM. After clearing the table and tidying up (e.g., mopping, vacuuming, etc.), you will spend time with our youngest daughter, as both older girls attend school every morning from 8:00 AM to 11:45 AM. They also have school two to three afternoons per week from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM.
At 11:00 AM, you will prepare lunch for me and the children, as my husband takes his lunch to work. Lunch is served at 12:00 PM. My husband works as a senior physician in a family practice, and I work primarily from home. After lunch, you will handle housework, such as laundry and cleaning, and play with the children. Depending on the schedule, you might take the children to the playground, help with activities, or assist with organizing their day. Dinner preparation starts at 5:30 PM, and your workday ends at 7:30 PM.
During the day, we will plan cleaning tasks and meals together. If you are comfortable, we would appreciate it if you could drive and run small errands, such as grocery shopping. Additionally, we will enroll you in a German language course, which we will cover for the duration of your stay with us.
You will have Saturdays and Sundays off. During your free time, you are welcome to go on trips, visit family (even in nearby countries and stay overnight for the weekend if you wish), or occasionally accompany us on outings if you like.
Your Personality:
You are a reliable, calm, friendly person who enjoys being around children and values quiet time as well. Ideally, you are between 22 and 25 years old and hold Portuguese, Brazilian, Albanian, or another EU citizenship. Your mother tongue is Portuguese or Albanian, and you speak good English. Additional language skills are a bonus but not mandatory. You are open to experiencing a new culture and are comfortable working in a Christian household.
You respect our family time and understand when to give us space. You are a non-smoker, a good cook, and enjoy household tasks (e.g., cleaning and organizing). Playing with children brings you joy, and we would love for our children to benefit from your Portuguese language skills.
Conditions:
Weekends off (weekend care only in exceptional cases and by prior arrangement)
Five weeks of paid vacation per year
Mandatory insurance coverage
Half-fare travel card (for discounted train rides in Switzerland)
Private room with an en-suite bathroom
Mobile phone plan
Above-average pay
Paid German language course
We are a multicultural, Christian family. We are fun, cheerful, and occasionally quite loud. We would be delighted if you could join and support our family starting in March 2025. We look forward to your application and to meeting you.
Additional Opportunity: A family just two houses down the street is also looking for a household employee during the same period. If you have a sister, friend, cousin, etc., who would like to come to Switzerland with you, feel free to apply together. I can share my neighbor's contact details for them. Their family has two small children.
Best regards,
