Welcome Letter to the Au Pair

Dear au pair,

we would love to welcome you in our big lively and loving patchwork family.

We enjoy to be outside a lot, but on cold winter days we might wear our jammies all day long, drink hot chocolate and play board games. During the week everyone is quite busy, but the weekends belong to the family.

Does this sound fine? Then maybe you are the one who fits our family perfectly well. Fancy a zoom call?

Best wishes,

Johanna & Jan bearbeiten

Job Description

When is comes to the question whether we want our au pair to help with „light housework“, we didn’t really know what to answer. It depends on how you define „light housework“. A cleaning lady’s is coming to our place twice a week and will take care of your bathroom as well. But you will need to empty the dishwasher, do groceries, take out the trash or help with the cooking.

Your main task is to look after our toddler Max, take him to the playground, play, dance and sing with him, read to him, do arts and crafts with him, feed him, bath him, change the nappies. Everything Max related would be English only as he’s raised bilingual.

Your help won’t be needed most of the mornings as our Australian nanny is taking care of Max from 9 to 2 five days a week. As our jobs don’t allow a regular schedule, we‘ll have to make plans day by day… For the same reason there won’t be family meals that often and you’ll have to cook your own meals most of the times.

We usually get up by 7am, Jan is working a lot so he won’t be back before 7 pm. Johanna‘s life is unpredictable. Some weeks your help might almost not be needed as we have an amazing nanny taking care of Max 5 hours every morning, in other weeks Johanna is on the road with Max and you’re home all alone, sometimes you are going to join her for a little trip and from time to time you will have to take over in the morning (if the nanny is on vacation or it’s the weekend) until we’re back late at night. As you can see, this is not a classic Aupair job with a lot of pre-scheduled working hours, we’re more looking for a room mate that’s part of the family and willing to help us with Max if needed, someone who‘s flexible, very reliable, independent and willing to build a circle of friends. You can be sure to have enough time for this and for enjoying everything Berlin has to offer including the crazy night life.

Your pocket money will be 400 Euros.

Accommodation

We are living in a spacious apartment in a house built during the art nouveau period. You‘re going to live in a room upstairs with your own bathroom and TV (who could live without Netflix?) which you only have to share with Arthur, when he is around. He also is the only one sleeping upstairs as well. Instead of a lot of people youl‘ll find a treadmill and a crosstrainer, Yoga mats and everything you need for your workout. But don’t worry: We are no fitness freaks, that’s for sure. Instead of this, we really enjoy meals with the family on the weekends and love to play board games until very late. By the way: Do you know codenames? Right now this is our favorite game…
We are living in the city center of Berlin, right next to a subway station that takes you to all the interesting places you might want to visit in no time.
