Welcome Letter to the Au Pair

Dear future au-pair,

We are looking forward to telling you more about our family and the type of au-pair we’re looking for. If you think we could be a good match, we are looking forward to hearing from you!

We live in Berlin, in the center of the city. We have a spacious house that allows for privacy but also offers a lot of common living areas. We have a garden that becomes the family's favourite "room" in the summer.

Our neighbourhood is called Friedrichshian. It is a vibrant neighbourhood, very popular with students and young adults. It has all the amenities expected in a big city, including not only many language schools but also bars, cafés, restaurants, movie theaterss, parks and the like. Needless to say, the house is in the vicinity of bus, metro and tram stops. We also provide a bike, which is the most popular mode of transportation in Berlin (and particularly our favourite).

We are very open in who we are looking for. You will score extra points if you:
- Speak Portuguese
- Have professional experience (not necessarily with kids)
- Are an EU citizen

*** Infelizmente, a regulação alemã não nos permite contratar au pair brasileiras que não tenham visto ou cidadania européia. Não vamos responder a contatos sem esses requerimentos***

Job Description

On a regular basis (Monday to Thursday) the job consists of picking the girls up at daycare between 15.00pm and 16.00 pm and playing with them for c. 2 - 2,5 hours, until we get home for dinner at 18.00 pm. On Fridays we pick them up ourselves. We also drop them off ourselves in the morning.

The daycares are relatively close, 5-10 minutes walking.

Additionally (and importantly), you will be responsible to take care of the girls full-time in case they are sick and when the daycares are closed on a working day.

Also, we occasionally would like to go out by ourselves. As you get used to the girls (and them to you) we might ask you to put them to bed and/or pay attention to the baby monitor while we are away.

Lastly, we would ask for some light housekeeping, like tidying up the kitchen and the girls' toys after bedtime.

As the girls are a bit shy, we plan some time for adaptation. We will increasingly get used to each other and you will increasingly take over responsibilities over the girls.

While we haven’t fully figured out our vacation plans for the year, we would likely invite you to join us. Last year that included a summer break in Spain.

We’ve had two au-pairs so far, and the experience was very positive. Our outgoing au pair agreed to make herself available to chat to the next likely candidates to talk about us and her experience.

Accommodation

Your room is located on the ground floor of the house. On the same floor there is a bathroom. The garage and the kitchen/dining room are also on that floor. We (us and the girls) sleep two floors above, giving a lot of space and privacy for everyone.

Your room is furnished with a single bed, a wardrobe, a working/study table and chair. In your room there is also a modern loudspeaker, in case you like listening to music. The room has a view and access to the garden, which can be used as a direct entrance to the house (without going through the main entrance).
