Welcome Letter to the Au Pair

Originally translated from Français

We are 3, Angélique (32 years old), François (37 years old) and Marcel 1 year old in July. We live in Normandy in the countryside but 1 hour from Paris by train. It can be nice for the weekend :-) The train station is 15 min by car from the house. Our small town 5 minutes (car) from home, has a swimming pool and essential stores. For the cinema, clothing stores, museums it is 30 min (car). At 1:30 (car) we have the beach (Town: Deauville). We will send pictures to the au pair of the whole family when we have established a 1st contact by message.

We live on a vegetable farm, near a forest. François was a market gardener with his brother for ten years. The brother stayed but, since 2017, François stopped being a farmer to become a full-time trainer / advisor in agroecology and developed his own consulting business. Me Angélique, I was an agricultural coordinator. From September I want to resume naturopathic training and work in parallel in the organization of agricultural events.

Thus, we like vegetable juices, nature, gardening, forest walks, cycling, reading ... We also like various subjects such as archeology, alternative education, Free Currency. We don't have TV but we are very interested in specialized YouTube channels on different subjects (food, medicine, politics ...). I (Angélique) spent a year in Poland as a volunteer animator in a nursery school so I know the importance of an experience abroad. I also did a seminar on the subject of interculturality in Macedonia.

We would like the reception of an au pair to be a true cultural and knowledge exchange. We will invite the au pair to meet our friends who are in the field of agriculture: students, advisers, market gardeners ... Depending on the period, there is also an employee and trainees on the farm where we live , it will be possible to meet them. There are also François's parents who very often come to the farm. We will organize an evening to welcome the au pair. At the start of the stay, we will provide the au pair with as much information as possible on the possibilities of activity near us (theater, choir, sport ...).
Regarding food, we eat a lot of raw fruits and vegetables, a little fish, eggs, rarely meat, and no cereals, legumes (pasta, rice, bread, etc.). However, we can buy the types of cereals for the au pair as well as more meat.

Job Description

Days and times: Marcel's care would be from Monday to Thursday and one evening a week occasionally from 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., when the father is away. Thus the au pair is free from Thursday at the end of the day. The hours are 8:30 a.m. to 5:45 p.m. - At noon we go home to eat (12:45 p.m. to 1:45 p.m.).

Tasks: You will have to watch Marcel during his naps (generally 1 hour in the morning, 1:30 to 2:00 in the afternoon). During the naps of course the girl at thepeer can do what she wants (readings ...). You have to feed him (mash 12h-snack 4pm), change his diaper, play with him, go for a stroll in a stroller if the weather is nice (if the au pair likes cycling, it can be by bike). It would also be good for lunch if the au pair cooks some vegetables for lunch, but no complicated cooking. In the evening it is I who cooks the food.

In addition, we do not ask the au pair to do housework, laundry, or ironing. For shared meals, the au pair will have to participate with us in setting the table, cooking, filling the dishwasher. On weekends, if she doesn't want to be alone, she can be with us and share our activities (small gardening, making vegetable juice, outings ...).

The organization can be reviewed with the au pair, for example if she needs to be free on Monday or Thursday. You can replace certain working days, but this must be arranged in advance. Indeed, if the au pair wishes to follow activities, internships, trainings ... on certain particular days, we can arrange the schedules differently, to a certain extent. The au pair has one day of vacation per month, cumulative for a whole week that it is possible to take at the end of the stay or before the end, it will just be necessary to warn us if possible 3 weeks in advance in order to organize at best.

We are looking for a real sharing with the person. If the person is interested in the same subjects as us, we could consider traveling to discover things together, conference, while sharing custody of Marcel.

Our house is a little too small to directly accommodate the au pair so 50m from our house there is the accommodation of the au pair, so this "mobylome" accommodation will only be for the au pair , this is the private space of the au pair. She will have her own key. This accommodation is heated with hot water of course. There is a kitchen area with fridge, oven (utensil included) with a lounge area, bathroom (bath towel provided), toilet and a bedroom (with all linen included). There are also several cupboards for storage. There is a 2nd bedroom to accommodate a friend or relative during the year. There will of course be on the internet. Thus the person will have all the privacy possible, in a green setting. The au pair can therefore accommodate people in their accommodation or on a campsite near the mobylome. The washing machine and dryer will however be in our house. Our house will be accessible, even if we are not there. A bicycle and a car will be available.

The limits for the reception are those of respect for the natural environment (no waste), material (no breakage) and the prohibition to accommodate a dog.

We have 3 cats on the farm as well as some free range hens.

As for living together, we could have lunch and dinner together. But it is true that at least two evenings a week we would like to meet in the privacy of our couple. In the mobylome there will be everything so that the au pair cooks freely.
There is an employee and trainees (depending on the period) on the farm with whom it will also be possible to discuss and eat in the evening according to everyone's wishes.

Do not hesitate to ask us questions about the reception conditions so that everything is clear.

We look forward to welcoming you.
