The biggest motivation for us to have an au pair is to incorporate the French language into the girls’ daily lives. We parents speak French fairly well, but not well enough to use it as our primary language at home. We believe that spending time daily with an au pair who speaks only French with the girls will help them learn quickly. One of the most important tasks for the au pair will simply be spending time with the girls in French. Of course, we’ll do this together as a family too, and we parents will also speak French when we’re together.

We understand that as an au pair, you might want to practice speaking English instead of French. That’s totally fine! Outside of the full family setting we can communicate in English if you prefer. Both of us speak English fluently and use it daily at work.

In addition to this, we imagine the role will include helping out with various household chores and perhaps picking up the kids from time to time. This is our first time hiring an au pair, but we’re confident we can agree on a level of responsibility that feels right for everyone.
