Welcome Letter to the Au Pair

Hi,
We are Rob & Cat, parents to Eloise (5).
We are both in the British Army, Rob as an engineer & Cat as a doctor. Eloise will start her second year at school in September 2025. We live in rural Suffolk. The nearest town is about a 20 minute drive away - it is a beautiful little place Called Bury St Edmunds. Cambridge is about 40 minutes drive away & it takes about 2 hours to get to the centre of London.

We live in a big old house just outside the military base Rob works on. Cat commutes about 45 minutes to another military base. Eloise’s school is approximately 1 mile away & can be walked to.

We recommend that only drivers come to stay with us as we are in a small village & we think an au pair will want to have the freedom to explore. Public transport isn’t great from here! You need to get to the local town, then there are good train links.

Our working patterns are mostly 0800-1730, Monday to Friday, but sometimes we need to be away overnight & this occasionally happens to us both at the same time. Rob often works away & cannot guarantee being back for school pick ups.

At weekends we love to be active & outside. Family walks, pub lunches, swimming, biking, barbecues, games in the garden. We also love to host friends & will always invite an au pair to join in any activities with us.

Job Description

We are looking for someone to do school drop offs & pick ups when our work timetables don’t allow & also to babysit some evenings when we are both required to be away, or one parent is away & the other home late. This will rarely be at weekends. We may occasionally ask for the odd night of babysitting at a weekend, but weekends will generally be your own time.

We have a cleaner & so no cleaning is required.
We both like cooking, so if you like to cook too, that is great (Eloise loves to bake), but if not, you will only need to do it when both parents are out.
