Welcome Letter to the Au Pair
Hello, future au pair! I’d like to provide you with a detailed introduction to our family and situation.
Preface: I have already found an au pair for my children. The au pair lived in my home for half a year. I have certain experience in assisting with visa processing, mobile payment, transportation, daily diet and other aspects of daily life. The children got along very happily with the au pair, and they have also acquired a little basic knowledge of English.
**Family Introduction:**
We are a friendly family from Chengdu, China, with two 5-year-old daughters currently attending kindergarten. My family runs an aluminum alloy auto parts factory, a restaurant, and three guesthouses. I have been divorced for three years, and my children live with us. We reside in a house in the city center with my mother, sister, two daughters, and two housekeepers.
**My Children:**
My two daughters are a bit shy and reserved by nature, but they become friendly and outgoing once they get to know you. They love playing with older sisters and enjoy activities like crafts, watching movies, drawing, playing with toys, exercising, and listening to stories. Due to the absence of their mother, they can be a bit clingy, but I am quite busy with work and business, leaving me little time for them. Although I initially hired a tutor, I realized that an au pair would not only provide companionship and education but also offer an English language learning environment and expose them to different cultures. Hence, I am looking for a suitable au pair to help them grow better.
**Future Au Pair:**
Firstly, I hope you are an honest and kind person. I hope you have an outgoing, proactive, lively and cheerful personality, because their English foundation is weak and they need someone who is outgoing, proactive and cheerful to play with them, study with them and have conversations with them. We expect our future au pair to love children and have enough patience to care for and educate them. I would like you to engage in early English learning with the children, sparking their interest in the language and providing a good English-speaking environment. You can play, read, watch movies, do outdoor activities, craft, teach simple math and logic, share your country’s culture, and your own interests and specialties with them. On weekends, you might also plan short trips or attend performances. Their schedule includes waking up at 7 AM, leaving for kindergarten at 8 AM, and finishing classes at 5:30 PM. Ideally, you could wake up early, but your main time for accompanying and educating them is after school. During winter and summer vacations, you might need to accompany them all day or half the day. In summer, you could also plan nearby or further trips, and in winter, we go to Sanya, China’s warmest coastal city, for winter. By the way, you’ll need to organize and manage their study area initially and help them learn to organize it themselves. Your pocket money will be between $300 to $400, depending on your daily performance and achievements in caring for and educating the children. If you need transportation, I will cover the expenses, and if you need teaching materials or books, let me know, and I will buy them. There are two housekeepers at home responsible for cooking and cleaning, so you will have time to play with the kids on holidays or focus on your own affairs when they are in kindergarten.
**Parents and Job:**
I run an aluminum alloy auto parts factory by my own, which involves a lot of complex operations. Additionally, my family owns a restaurant and three hotels. I am also a member of the local political consultative conference, vice president of the Chamber of Commerce, and vice chairman of the Youth Federation, which keeps me very busy. I studied design at university and have many ideas. If you are interested in business and factory management, we can share and learn from each other. I enjoy watching movies, exercising, singing, and keeping up with technology news. Due to my business commitments and social activities, including entertaining clients and attending various associations and gatherings, I often spend my evenings in social events (China has a unique dining culture with drinking), which takes away from my time with the children and personal hobbies. I am a gentle, friendly, kind, and patient person, which is why I have been invited to many associations and have many friends. Besides me, my mother (the children’s grandmother) also helps care for the kids, mainly handling bedtime routines for one of them. Their mother left 3 years ago, and she has not returned since arrived America; she occasionally makes video calls with the children. The children’s grandparents visit every two weeks or a month, which is why I hope to find a responsible older sister to accompany my daughters.
**Accommodation and Meals:**
Our house was completed in 2019 and includes a movie room and a gym. We will provide you with a comfortable 35-square-meter room with a private bathroom, walk-in closet, and study area. The room is also equipped with air conditioning and underfloor heating. You will only need to organize and clean your own room. Our house is in the city center, with convenience stores nearby. Since the city is not very large, it’s easy to get around. There is also public transport, and a high-speed train station nearby can take you to the provincial capital, Chengdu. Our city is a tourist city with good air and temperature. You can view images or search online for Dujiangyan.
Our cuisine is Sichuan cuisine, which might be a bit spicy. A dedicated aunt prepares the meals, but if you are not used to it, you can cook for yourself. The aunt can help with buying ingredients, and you can also share your traditional foods with the children.
**City:**
Our house is located in Dujiangyan, Chengdu, Sichuan Province. Chengdu, the largest city in southwestern China, is about 40 kilometers from Dujiangyan, roughly a 1-hour drive. I believe my city is perfect for experiencing Chinese culture and tourism. It is famous for having three world heritage sites. The most renowned is the Dujiangyan Irrigation System, built in 256 BC and still functioning, with a history of around 2270 years. The city also has ancient towns and streets. Qingcheng Mountain, the birthplace of Taoism, is located here. We have two panda parks, and pandas are China’s national treasure. The surrounding area offers mountains and rivers for hiking, camping, or swimming in mountain streams. We also have the world’s largest indoor ski resort, amusement parks, and indoor water parks.
If you want to visit the international metropolis of Chengdu, it is also convenient. There are skyscrapers, international malls, more food options, museums, and attractions, with many young people.
**Chinese Language Study:**
Since the city where I live is not a megacity, my home is 40 kilometers away from Chengdu, the largest, central and bustling city in Sichuan Province. The language course school that I can register for is 60 kilometers away from my home. It takes one and a half hours to get there by public transportation, which requires taking the subway and the high-speed train. I will cover the transportation expenses. I hope this is not particularly troublesome or difficult for you.
**Other:**
We will treat you as a family member, sharing food and Chinese culture with you and teaching some basic Chinese. On weekends, you can plan visits to nearby attractions. We can coordinate time to explore places you are interested in with the children, attend exhibitions or performances, and even plan further travel during summer vacation. During the entire winter holiday and Chinese New Year, we will be in Sanya, China’s warmest coastal city. Since it’s a vacation home, it’s not very large, with only two rooms and a sofa bed. I hope you can accept sharing a room with the children.
If you have specific food preferences, let the children know and coordinate with me to arrange a time to go out. If you can handle spicy food, I can take you to try some local specialties. As for daily meals at home, which are typically Sichuan cuisine and might be a bit spicy, I will try to have the aunt prepare one or two non-spicy dishes. Of course, you can also cook yourself; the aunt can help buy ingredients or you can shop at the supermarket.
Chengdu in Sichuan is known for being a welcoming and friendly city. It hosted the World University Games in 2023. Chengdu people are warm, hospitable, and easy-going. We respect our guests and will appreciate and respect you even more if you are competent in accompanying my children. If you have special customs, please let us know during the details discussion, and we will do our best to respect them.
