Welcome Letter to the Au Pair
Hello! I am a single parent of three active, playful boys. We live in a small town on the edge of the Cotswolds, with bus links to the nearest town; we also have our own car, as this is much easier to get around.
Rory, 7, loves lego, Minecraft, riding his bike, drawing, playing on the Switch (such as Mario Kart). He is very logical and is a wonderful problem solver. Rory is autistic and has ADHD, his needs are primarily emotional and sensory regulation - he is usually quite 'sensory avoidant' which means he can become overwhelmed by loud noises or unfamiliar routines. However, he also loves jumping, spinning, and hanging upside down. Rory loves making lego creations and coming up with fantastic ideas. Rory needs some support with his toileting, he used nappies overnight and he can become embarrassed, he needs personal care to preserve his dignity and calm reassurance.
Milo, 5, and he is my 'always on the go' child. He is also autistic and has ADHD, but he is the opposite of his brother and will actively seek out sensory input - such as spinning, crashing into furniture or people, he loves climbing and swinging on the monkey bars. Milo really benefits from having lots of movement encouraged. He can become emotionally overwhelmed, so a calming presence to help him regulate, offer Milo his sensory aids or a fidget toy. He is really playful, he also loves riding his bike and climbing trees. At home, Milo enjoys playing lego, Barbies, playdoh, and drawing.
Theodore is our youngest, 3. Theodore's language is still developing. He is an active little boy, who loves cuddles and playdoh, or roleplay games like play kitchens or playing 'doctors'. He loves going to the park, or scooting around on his little trike after his brothers. He really enjoys baking cakes - and then eating them!
Rory and Milo are home educated, I facilitate their learning at home with lots of hands on learning, and learning through play. They also attend a few home education groups, which requires drop off and collecting. Theodore attends the local preschool (walking distance) three days a week. The boys stay with their father alternate weekends, and one weekday per week.
Our family unit changed quite abruptly last year, and we are reaching the point that we would really benefit from an au pair to help us to thrive and enjoy our lives. We really enjoy going out on day trips, such as to the local wildlife park, theme parks, or the beach, but due to the boys' needs (they have low danger awareness, so need supervision from an adult) I struggle to take them as a solo adult, so as a part of our household you would be included on our day trips, to help support the children and also to share those experiences. As a family, we also enjoy camping, this is something I have always done as a single adult but if you enjoy camping and travelling, we would love to include you in our holidays.
We also have a cocker spaniel puppy, so part of the role would be helping with pet care, or watching the children while I go for a solo dog walk.
