Welcome Letter to the Au Pair

Dear Au Pair,

we are very much looking forward to welcoming you into our family and our home! We envision you to be like a big sister or brother for our 2 little boys (2 & 4) and relieve the stress of balancing working and parenting by playing with the kids and taking some tasks off our hands.

What we offer you - in a nutshell:
- a kind and caring family with two very loveable children
- a beautiful home
- the perfect blend between small town and bigger city life

We live in the city of Düsseldorf in a beautiful and quiet neighbourhood. We have a newly renovated 2-story-apartment, which also comprises a nice garden for the kids to play. The boys' lovely grandparents live on the floor above us in a separate apartment.

The city of Düsseldorf is a 20 min tram ride away, you‘ll find several language schools near the city centre.

Düsseldorf is Germany's 7th largest city with approx. 600.000 inhabitants. It's a beautiful city with a nice blend of old and new, traditional and modern.

One of the most fun traditions is certainly the Carnival season in February, when everyone dresses up and the streets are filled with clowns, tigers and aliens:-) Don't miss going to our neighbour city Cologne for even more Carnival fun.

Düsseldorf combines big city and small town life perfectly. You can go to the bustling old town with its bars & restaurants (also known as "the longest bar in the world"), but also enjoy nature and peace at the river Rhine or in one of the many parks or surrounding woods. It has many art museums and fun events going on throughout the year. There is a lot of history to discover in Düsseldorf and the many cities nearby. It's only a 1 hour drive to the Netherlands and 2 more hours to the seaside.

Job Description

You should have some experience in taking care of smaller children. Caring for and playing with children should come naturally to you and bring you joy. We're looking for an aupair to become a true part of our family, someone who is reliable, responsible and honest.

As we envision you to be like a big sister/ brother to our children your main tasks will be spending time with them:
- pick them up from Kindergarten on most days at around 3pm
- go to the playground with them or play with them in the house or garden in the afternoon
- help with their bedtime routine

Some light household activities will include
- helping the boys to keep their bedroom & playroom as well as the living area tidy
- supporting with grocery shopping
- loading/ unloading the dishwasher
- help preparing dinner
- cleaning your own room

You will have a lot of time off during weekends, however we'd like you to babysit approximately once a week (during the week or on the weekend) so we can go out without the children. As part of our family you are very welcome to join us on any weekend activities, but you don't have to.

Accommodation

We live in the city of Düsseldorf in a beautiful and quiet neighbourhood, in easy walking distance to the woods, a small shopping street and the tram into the city center (20 minute ride). We have a newly renovated 2-story-apartment, which also comprises a nice garden for the kids to play. The boys' lovely grandparents live on the floor above us in a separate apartment.

Our life mainly happens on the ground floor of our place with the kitchen, living & dining area, access to the garden as well as our bedrooms (master & kids) being located there. We have an additional downstairs floor with an office and a playroom for the kids. You'll have a lovely bedroom on that floor, too, with a beautiful (almost) private bathroom. As our sauna is in that bathroom, too, we'll be using it from time to time as well.
