Work abroad in Maria's family for 6-12 Months starting from Mar 2024 as an Au Pair to take care of 2 children of 1 - 5 years old & 6 - 10 years old in Dessau, Saxony-Anhalt Germany

Your childcare responsibilities:

We have three children and both work (host mother will work again from May 2024).
The older one will be 7 years old in April and is very independent and helpful, so she doesn't need any care.
The middle one is 4 (will be 5 in June) and needs a playmate, a mediator or new game ideas every now and then. But he also plays and entertains himself wonderfully.
Our youngest needs the most care. He will be 1 year old in April and will then attend the crèche.

Your working hours: Mon-Fri. between 4 p.m. and 8 p.m. or 5 p.m. and 8 p.m.
During this time I (host mother) am in the house and take care of any outstanding tasks in the home office, so that (on difficult days) you never have to deal with the little one alone and can call me in at any time.

In the summer the children play a lot in the garden, in the colder months they enjoy doing crafts, reading aloud or building with Lego. In general, the two big ones are very imaginative when it comes to role playing, dressing up, and fantasy. Sometimes half the ground floor is converted with cushions, chairs and blankets - so there won't be a lack of ideas if you can empathize with their world.

Your household tasks:

We look forward to help in everyday life around the house. Be it emptying the dishwasher, helping the children put away their toys in the evening, setting the table, perhaps preparing something simple for dinner or folding dried children's laundry. We won't assign any fixed tasks here and hope that you walk through the house with your eyes open and take on such things when you have time, just as all family members try to do during the week. Otherwise, a lot of cleaning is not necessary as we already have help from a household helper every week.

Of course, you keep your room clean and take care of the furnishings. While we work, you will prepare your own breakfast and lunch. We go shopping together once a week (we don't have separate groceries).

Your (educational) skills:

We hope that you not only supervise the children, but also play along like a big sister and encourage them to new ideas.
It would be great if you are creative and like to do crafts or paint. Our children are very influenced by the orientation of their daycare center according to the pedagogy of Maria Montessori. They can keep busy and play a lot. The older one practices the piano for about 15 minutes a day and is starting to read regularly. The middle one looks at his sister a lot and is currently very interested in numbers and letters. We are happy to take this up and offer him swing exercises and tasks with the Lük box (for about 15 minutes a day). It would be nice if you supported these small supports and motivated the children to take short periods of concentration. There is plenty of craft and learning material available!

It is therefore important that you either have relevant experience in the educational field or have had a lot to do with younger siblings, nephews, etc. in your free time or are able to establish access to children's interests and needs.

Your free time:

You have free time in the morning and the entire weekend. You can attend a language course, meet friends or go to Berlin, Leipzig, Halle, etc.
You have vacation four weeks a year. You can explore Europe or visit your family.

Your personality:

You are honest, open, optimistic and have a positive attitude towards life. You are aware that you are a role model for the children you live with.
You can network independently, plan your trips independently, and find leisure activities and friends.
You already have experience with how a household is organized and kept clean because you have either already lived alone or are involved in your own family and take on responsibility.
