Welcome Letter to the Au Pair

Dear Aupair,

Welcome to our page and thank you for taking the time to learn more about us! We are a young and energetic family consisting of dad Wouter, mom Marielle, daughter Beaudine (5 very chatty and enthusiastic), and sons Xander (3 knows what he wants) and Diederik (1 third-child so easy going ;). We also have two cats, Muchu and Coco, which complete our cozy chaos.

We love traveling and culture, and we understand that this is why you are coming to The Netherlands too! We are super-excited to to contribute to you getting familiar with the Dutch food and culture over the coming year.

We have move ld a year ago to our new city house (with a city-garden) in the "eerste Sweelinkstraat" near the amazing city centre of The Hague. In this house which dates back to 1893, you will have your own room on the fourth flour, and a bathroom you share only with the kids and with guests if they stay over. I've added a photo of your room (though the interior will change, this is from the current owners). The Hague is one of the most beautiful and versatile city's of The Netherlands. You can stroll past stunning palaces and enjoy beaches (Google: Scheveningen), while also indulging in a vibrant cultural and culinary scene. We hope you discover The Hague; it's historical (and Dutch Royal) grandeur mixed with modern elegance. Due to our busy lives - we are often out and about (on weekends) - so you will have plenty of time to explore our beautiful country with friends or colleagues from the Au Pair network. We would love for you to meet our extended family (parents, grandparents etc.), but also encourage you to build your own network, for this will be valuable throughout your life.

We are very happy if you will join our family as our au-pair, and trust we will have a great year together. For us you will be treated as our daughter as we feel responsible for you and your happiness. We therefore really hope you will trust us and tell us when anything is the matter. We find it very important that you are open with us, flexible, friendly and honest. The Dutch way of communication is quite open and direct. Please take no offence; it comes from a good heart!

As parents with irregular jobs, it can sometimes be all hands on deck, and during those moments, we could really use your pro-active help to restore the calm.
