Welcome Letter to the Au Pair

Welcome to our family! We are a loving family of two parents, happily married, and two little boys aged 7 months and 2years 8 months. We also have a dog called Ted who is very relaxed and spends most of his day sleeping. He is great with the kids. We live in Drogheda town within a short walking distance to the centre, where there are ample shops, movie theatres, language schools, churches and culture connect groups. We are a short walk to the train station connecting you to Dublin City centre in a 30 min train ride. We also have lots of bus services. We are a 10 minute drive to the beach, and there is a bus that goes there from across the street too. We are a 25 minute drive to the airport. All of these local amenities make Drogheda a great place for family life.

Job Description

Rachel has been restricted in recent times with her ability to perform daily activities due to medical issues with her neck and spine. She has been recommended by her doctors to reduce the amount of lifting and bending she does with the children to mitigate the aggravation of her injuries. So she needs some help with getting the kids dressed and ready for the day, with lifting them, meal preparation and general play.

Morning: The duties will involve working a morning shift with the children from 7am - 9.30am. Dressing the children, preparing breakfast, engaging in play and walking them to day care (10min walk).

Daytime: During the day, our children will attend daycare. Finn will start in January 2025 so until that time, Rachel will be not working so she can take care of him from the home but will need some help. Otherwise, and from January 2025, it is expected that during the day some housework is done by the au pair, occasional grocery shopping and preparation of family meals. Only if our children are home (sick or for another reason) do we expect our au pair to take care of them during the day. So long as those tasks gets done, any free time during the day is to be enjoyed by our Au Pair.

Evening: We expect that our Au Pair will collect our children from daycare at 4pm, take them home and engage in play, deliver a family meal and help with the bedtime routine (bathing the children, putting the children to bed).

Nighttime: We expect our au pair to assist with any night time wake ups by the children.

Please know that both Eoghan and Rachel intend to maintain a very active role in all of the daily activities. It will be a new experience for us to have another person join our family so it make take time for us to establish exactly what the duties will be. We would still very much like to be involved in our children’s’ morning and evening routine. We just need some help, to help with Rachel’s healing and also to allow us to do our work too.

Weekends are for the au pair to enjoy their own free time with no duties to the family.

We will provide €1000 per month + food + board + travel costs. We are also very happy to support the cost of an English language learning course. We will also be happy to treat the au pair to the occasional holiday or weekend away, with the costs and expenses paid by us. This will be based on the length of time the au pair is living with us.

Accommodation

We live in a 5 bedroom house with 4 bathrooms. The au pair will live in their own room with a double-king sized bed and storage space. We have two separate living rooms, both equipped with comfortable sofas and televisions. One of these rooms will be dedicated to the au pair after the children go to bed so you can enjoy your own space. We have a large open kitchen, with three ovens, a large meal prep kitchen island and a dining table and chairs. We have a big garden. We are hoping to build a new “outhouse” with a bedroom and bathroom. If this is done in time, it will be the au pairs own personal space, separate to the main home.
