Welcome Letter to the Au Pair

Hey! We’re the family, Timo, Marie, Felix (3 years) and Josefine (1 year). We live in a quiet part of Duisburg, a city of roughly 500,000. We live about 200m away from the river Rhine and you can do walks or sports on the river bank. The tram (5 mins away) takes you to the center in about 15 min where you find malls, boutiques, a cinema, cafés and everything you need. By foot you can reach supermarkets, barber shops, cafés and a bakery. We’ll give you a ticket with which you can travel through all of Germany by train, tram and bus.
Düsseldorf is about 20 min away by train, Dortmund and Cologne about 40 min. It takes about 30 min to the Netherlands by car, so it shouldn’t be that long by train. Every now and then we also make a trip to the sea in the Netherlands and we would be delighted to take you with us.
Overall, we see you as an addition to our family, although - of course - you will also have your privacy.

Job Description

Preferrably but not necessarily you're from Europe.

Most of the time you’ll support Marie in the morning when Timo is at work. She’ll care for Josie then and you’ll take care of Felix. That means eating with him, going out with him every day (usually to one of the nearby playgrounds) and also playing at home and sometimes making smaller trips by car or public transport with him (e.g. to the zoo or public library). It would be great if you had a driving license but not obligatory. You should be willing to get creative and think of or google things you might play or craft with him. We expect you to engage with him a lot (e.g. actually talking to and playing with him on the playground and not just sit there and watch him play on his own).
Also, we order food from HelloFresh every week and on some days it might be your turn to cook.

We are trying to establish a small group with one or two other kids of Felix' age. So on some days they will be at our place (but you wouldn't care for them all alone but together with Marie) and some days Felix will be gone to them and you'd have free time then.

Saturdays and Sundays are almost always free for you.
We teach Felix English and German, so you’d be free to pick your preferred language.

Accommodation

You’d live in our apartment and have the biggest room with a lot of light thanks to the big windows. Unfortunately, we cannot offer you your own bathroom since we only have one which we’d also like to keep using. ;) But we keep it clean (and also ask you to), so no worries about that. Of course, you can use our WiFi. You’ll have a bed, a big table with chairs, some cupboards, an armchair, some plants and a big TV with streaming services like Disney+ and Amazon Prime access in your room. If there’s anything else you need, just let us know.
As of now, Felix really needs a longer nap in the afternoon, so we'd ask you to be quiet during that time and not playing loud music or such.
