Welcome Letter to the Au Pair

Hello to our future Au Pair and family member.
We are a German-American, bilingual family currently living in Germany. We used to live near Washington D.C and all of our five kids (15, 14, 12, 10, and 7) were born in USA. They all speak English and have now learned to speak German as well. I am German and my husband is American.
We live in a cozy town about 45 min away from Stuttgart. We are a fun-loving family who love animals and hope to some day fulfill our dream of having a farm. Our very large 7 year old black Labrador retriever completes us and adds a lot of joy to our family.
We would love to be able to share our loving, sweet, but also sometimes wild family life with you. I am a High School teacher teaching Chemistry and Biology and my husband is a consultant. We are looking for someone who could help us with taking care of the kids and making sure that their needs are met as well as that they fulfill their responsibilities, homework, extracurricular activities, and still find time to be kids and have fun.
One of our daughters has special needs and always needs supervision and help with self care. We are especially looking for a compassionate, understanding, patient, and very loving Au Pair who likes hugs and doesn't mind repeating her age over and over again. So if you think that you know 1000 different ways to answer how old you are and make her laugh then you will fit right in. Try answering with "one hundred" and experience her eyes widen and fill will sparkles and joy. Priceless!
So if you have experience with special needs, it is definitely a plus.
We believe that we have a lot to offer to you as a multi- cultural, multi- able family. We understand what it takes to be an Au Pair and all the challenges and benefits that come with it. I used to be an Au Pair in America myself and met my husband during my Au Pair year. It is unbelievable that 20 years later we are now excited to host an Au Pair as well. Back in the USA, we used to have a very lovely Granny Au Pair helping us out for 5 years who now is forever part of our family. If a reference is required, she would gladly provide one for your piece of mind and tell you about her experience with our family.
We currently have a wonderful and very loving Au Pair from Texas, USA who has become a part of our family and whom the kids adore. She will be finishing her year in August and can talk about her experience as well.

Job Description

First and foremost, your job would be to be a loving and caring member of our family. We are looking for a good role model who can take the place of a big sister, friend, but also a caretaker and leader. Since our kids' ages are from teen to 2nd-grader, you should feel comfortable with a broad range of kids activities. Some of your responsibilities might include
- mostly taking care of and spending time with our daughter with special needs
- occasionally pick up younger kids from school
- help with homework or play with younger siblings while I work on homework and studying with the older ones
- play and engage with the children ( games, sports, crafts)
- take them to the park or playground
- drive to sports activities
- sometimes prepare simple meals or snacks
- help with kids' laundry
- encourage the kids to do their chores
- you will be helping mostly after school hours ( it will allow for some time off and personal educational enrichment e.g. online school or online classes while the kids are at school, if you wish to do that).

Accommodation

You will have a private, fully furnished bedroom with your own bathroom in a modern and very open and bright house (lovingly named the modern glasshouse by the neighbors) available with wi-fi.

Our house is at the end of our neighborhood on the edge of town. It is adjacent to fields and farmland and there are many bike trails right outside the door.
The town center is within walking minutes and has a bus connection to the nearest city with an extensive railroad network that leads to many major cities. Stuttgart can be reached in less than one hour, many other big cities offering many activities, sports, watersports, shopping center, schools, universities, are within 15 -30 min.

We are situated in the middle of the beautiful German wine countryside with gorgeous vinyards and breathtaking views.

You will have access to the family car. You will also have a Vespa for your own personal use.
