Welcome Letter to the Au Pair

Dear Prospective Au Pair,

We are a warm and loving family looking for a caring and enthusiastic au pair to join our household and share daily life with us. We live just 20-25 minutes from the city center by bus. The bus stop is very close—just a 5-minute walk on the way out and only 1 minute on the way back!

Our family consists of Dad, who often travels abroad for work, Mom, who is currently a student, and me energetic 4-year-old daughter, Rumi. I'm full of life and curiosity and love discovering the world around me ! We are looking for a Japanese Au Pair to speak/teach her Japanese along with helping on daily tasks.

Job Description

We would like our au pair to take part in some daily tasks, such as taking care of Rumi and teaching her Japanese, accompanying her to/from school or other activities, as well as contributing to household chores and meal preparation. We estimate approximately 20 to 25 hours of work per week, with at least one full day of rest (Sunday) per week. This means the Au Pair would have ample time to take French classes and socialize during the week. There will be two weeks of paid vacation to be arranged for a 12-month stay. We plan for approximately 1.5 months of vacation during the summer and 1 or 2 trips abroad, during which the au pair will have free time.

We want you to feel comfortable and remain flexbile to discuss expectations in further detail!

On average, Rumi's schedule is as follows:
Wake up around 6 AM to prepare for school. Classes run until 5 PM every day except Wednesday, when she finishes at 1 PM to attend Taekwondo, followed by returning home. Friday afternoons are generally free.
Saturday morning: Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu class.
Saturday afternoon and evening: Rest and leisure.
Sunday: Rest and leisure.

Our au pair would undoubtedly enjoy discovering the rich cultural heritage of Brussels, with its museums, stunning architecture, and charming neighborhoods such as the Sablon or the Marolles, while also appreciating the variety of Brussels' cosmopolitan gastronomy. She could also take advantage of the numerous parks for leisurely walks, explore local markets to soak up the city's warm and welcoming atmosphere, and delve into the cultural diversity that Brussels offers, being such a cosmopolitan and inviting city. Moreover, Brussels is centrally located in Europe, just 1.5 hours away from Paris by train, for example. We offer pocket money of approximately 500 euros per month, insurance covering medical, pharmaceutical, and hospitalization costs in case of illness or accident, as well as comfortable accommodation (a 17m² room) with Wi-Fi access and all meals included. The au pair will also have the opportunity to attend language courses at a recognized, accredited, or subsidized institution to improve their French. We aim to create a warm and welcoming environment where the au pair will feel comfortable and can fully enjoy their experience in Brussels.
