Welcome Letter to the Au Pair

Hi ☺️

We are Zoe (Mum), Taylor (Dad) and Elijah (child). We live in Frankston in Melbourne Australia. Frankston is at the fringe of Melbourne, and at the start of the beautiful Mornington Peninsula. This area is a beautiful and fun place to live with lots to do and a decent nightlife. There is so much to do and see in around this beautiful coastal area. We are close to bike paths, public transport and some lovely parks and nature reserves.

Taylor works full time as a Data Analyst for the government. He is also about to finish his Masters in Data Science.

I ( Zoe) don't currently work, but I am considering going back to study my Masters/Honours in the field of neuroscience/psychology/behavioural analyst.

Elijah is a energetic, intelligent boy who loves robots, figuring out how things work, building, music and being active.

We all love the water and try and get to the beach often and have swimming pool memberships.

Job Description

I am disabled with a chronic health condition and need some extra support with childcare, around the house and with driving. We hope to add another child to our family and I need the time to work on my health. I also have frequent medical appointments. I tend to get quite sick during pregnancy and will need help with pick ups and drop offs. Elijah is at a Montessori preschool and will also be starting 3 yo kindgarten this year down the road. Therefore, he will be at school 3-5 days a week for at least a few hours a day. He will also be in some extra curricular activities that might need attending if I cannot. As well as taking Elijah to the park nextdoor to play and helping me with him as I run errands etc.

There will be some house duties, as well as the occassional cooking depending on your cooking abilities and knowledge of vegan food.

A drivers licence is a must. We are hoping to find an Au Pair from a country that drives on the left hand side of the road or with experience in it.
We will require you to take a defensive driving course here in Australia, which we will pay for.

Current first aid is a must, including the use of an AED (we have one in our home). We also expect knowledge on how to deal with different kinds of fires in the home.
We are happy to pay for first aid training when you get here, and set you up to learn about fires. We also would love if the person was familar with Montessori and authoritative gentle parenting or be willing to learn.

We need someone with at least intermediate English skills.

As we are a water family and live near the water, it is preferred that the person is a competant swimmer. We often go to the pool and beach.

You will have access to a hatchback car at times that can be negotiated, for work but also if you are wanting to do some sight seeing.

We occassionally go on holidays to AirBnBs, camping, or to visit family in Brisbane and the Yarra Valley and would occassionally if it worked love to bring you with us. Expenses paid for. We would also be fine with you taking off time to go visit other places in Australia.

For someone who can committ to being here for around a year, we will contribute some money towards your plane ticket here if required. This can be discussed.

Accommodation

We live in an older humble 1970s home in the Karingal area of Frankston. We live within walking distance (10 minutes) to Karingal Hub Shopping Centre which has everything you could need, including a movie theatre, clothing stores, places to eat and supermarkets. You will have a large room with your own ensuite. It will be furnished with a queen sized bed, desk and chair, draws, bedside table and anything else you would like. We will use half the very large built in for storage of our Christmas decorations and other things that dont need to be accessed very often. We would only access them with your permission and organise a time. You will also have your own living area. We will need to access this space occassionally, but again will always ask. It will have some of our stuff in part of it (such as books in a book case). It also will have a place for you to do some cooking with a fridge/freezer, water bubbler, table and chairs to eat at, microwave, burner and so on. This means you can do some cooking and eating in your own space. It will also have a couch and a television with access to streaming services through a gaming console. You will have an extender that accesses our home WiFi. The laundry is easily accessible from your space. Your space will have its own private entry way through the back of our house, but is connected to the mainhouse as an extension on the back of our house.
