Welcome Letter to the Au Pair

Hi! We are a Costa Rican family who on the Costa Rican tourism high season (dec-april) live at a family-run hotel in southern Costa Rica in the rainforest and at the beach; Tiskita Jungle Lodge. Both parents will be working and so we are looking for an au-pair to look after our two daughters, 4 and 8 yrs old. We live at a small off grid cabin up in the jungle but the au-pair would live at the main lodge. Both girls speak English and Spanish and will be in their summer vacation. There is lots to do outdoors and its a great opportunity to experience the rainforest.

Job Description

As its high season for tourism and both of us parents will be working full time the girls do need someone to watch them when neither one of us is available or the grandparents cannot either. Flexibility is a must and there will be lots of walking/hiking involved so not super fit but has to be fit to walk up to our house from the main lodge, 15min walk, walk down to the beach and back up etc, go bike riding with the girls, horseback riding etc.
Taking care of the girls in our house is fairly easy as there are lots of things to do and not lots of distractions, taking care of them closer to the lodge becomes harder as there are more variables. The idea would be to have them more removed from the lodge, at the house, at the beach, or off doing an activity, especially with Covid. Around the lodge staff have to wear masks when they are around guests, and you would too when at the main lodge in staff areas. All our kitchen staff are vaccinated as is our family (except for the girls of course) and we would ideally be looking for someone fully vaccinated as well.

The Au Pair will be staying at the main lodge, as our house has only one room. The room at the main lodge is small but has a large deck with hammock, one shared bathroom and WiFi. The lodge pool is close by and there will be people coming in to work at the lodge everyday. All meals are provided at the main lodge, lots of Costa Rican local food, vegetarian options always available. Punta Banco is hot and humid in the dry season but as we are close to the ocean there is breeze and nights are cooler. There is no AC at the accommodation.
