Welcome Letter to the Au Pair

Originally translated from Deutsch
Hello :-) (Please read our entire profile before writing to us!)
We are still looking for a friendly, sporty au pair. Our profile will continue to be supplemented with text and photos (as of September 2024). We have been using Aupair.com since 2017.
We are a married (educated) couple and have two boys (9 and 11 years old). We speak German at home and are German citizens. (We can also speak English, French and Russian). Both boys are in the 6th grade of high school and are at school from 7:30 a.m. to 1:20 p.m.

Mom teaches German at high school until 1 p.m. and is back in the house from 1:30 p.m. Dad works in his office, which is also in the house, and he also takes care of the garden and the house a lot.
In the afternoon, the boys usually do three hours of homework for school.
The boys are very sporty and very independent. They can dress themselves, go to the bathroom alone and go to bed alone.
An au pair job for a family with "older" children who already go to school or high school is completely different from an au pair job where the small children (1 to 6 years old) are still in the house all day.

The au pair's job would be to support the parents with the routine in the house and to take on certain tasks or areas in the house independently (for example, regularly preparing a simple breakfast and lunch); to do an hour of sport with the boys every afternoon. Or to learn English with the boys, or if their German skills are good, to do their homework sometimes... In summer, the laurel trees and flowers on the terraces have to be watered with water for 30 to 40 minutes every two days. Light housework (vacuuming, cleaning windows) should also be done regularly by arrangement.

We have had regular foreign guests (including au pairs) in the house for many years. Every person (every au pair) is different and every au pair has different things that they enjoy.
So we first try to see who might fit into our family. Then we try to see during a trial period (two weeks, we cover all travel costs to Germany and back) whether a friendly coexistence with mutual sympathy develops. And whether the tasks assigned to the au pair are suitable. This is the only way we can live together for a longer period of time, many months, with joy, sympathy and mutual support.

Our town in the "Ahr Valley" (53474 Bad Neuenahr) has around 30,000 inhabitants.
The nearest larger cities are 18 kilometers away: Bonn (with a large university, 330,000 inhabitants, 25 minutes by train) and Cologne (with a large university, 1.1 million inhabitants, 40 minutes by train).
Bus stop: 30 meters from the house.
Train stop: 500 meters from the house.
Distance to the city center 2 km
Distance to the language school 0 km in our house, (mom is a language teacher at the German language high school), or 3.5 km away (adult education center)
(To be continued...)
Please note: if you come from a country that is not a member of the EU, the age limit for the au pair program in Germany is 26 years. (Time of application for the au pair visa)

Job Description

Originally translated from Deutsch
We would like a candidate who seriously wants to learn or improve the German language.

We will definitely invite the au pair to come to us for a trial period of one or two weeks (we will cover all travel costs). After that, everyone can freely decide whether they want to live together in a house for several months.

We expect you to be able to adapt to our family culture, to our table culture and we expect you to be helpful.

You should be (become) part of the family, like a big sister or big brother who has completed their education but still lives at home; and therefore takes on fixed tasks in the house to relieve the parents.

We have good connections to universities, schools and companies. If you want to study in Germany later, do an apprenticeship or work, we can support you.

Please note: if you come from a country that is not a member of the EU, the age limit for the au pair program in Germany is 26 years. (Time of application for the au pair visa)
