Welcome Letter to the Au Pair

Dear au pair,
We are Mareike and Ben from a village in the north of Germany. We live here with our son (almost 7 years old) and our daughter (2.5 years old), as well as our lovely dog Oskar.

As we both work, we are looking for a new au pair to look after our children in the afternoons from September 1st, 2025.

Our village has around 2500 inhabitants and is located between fields on the Elbe. There is a grocery store, doctors and a pharmacy. The next larger city is around 40 minutes away by bus. There is a cinema, lots of shops, etc. It takes around 1.5 hours to get to Hamburg by train.

We would be delighted to have a loving, open and honest young woman between 18 and 24 years old. If you are as cheerful and communicative as we are, we would be happy to have you as part of our family!

Job Description

Our son is attending school. Your job would be to pick him up from school at lunchtime by bike (!). Since there is no lunch there, you would have to make him a little something. Maybe he needs a break first or you can start with his homework.
Our daughter has to be picked up from kindergarten at 2/3 p.m. When you get home, you can play with the children, read aloud, do crafts, bake, go to the playground or meet other children from the neighborhood. Another au pair lives a few houses away. Maybe you can do something together with the children.

Sometimes we need help around the house, e.g. vacuuming, washing or moving laundry, tidying up toys, setting the table... You are responsible for your own room. You have to clean it yourself. But if you want, your clothes can be washed with the family laundry.

As our children are still young, they only speak German. You need at least A1-Niveau.
Furthermore, there's a lot of water here (the river Elbe, small moats), we have a little pool and we go swimming regularly, so you need to be able to swim.
