Welcome Letter to the Au Pair

UPDATE: WE HAVE FOUND OUR AUPAIR FOR THIS YEAR, SO ONLY APPLY IF YOU PLAN ON STARTING IN SUMMER 2024!

Dear Aupair,
Welcome to our family! Our family consists of five people and two small dogs. We live in Karlsruhe, a lively city in the southwest of Germany. We would like an AuPair to expand our family and support in everyday life. You should be cordially invited and feel like part of our family and not just a 'worker'. Our children are all day (8:00-16:00) in kindergarten. Of course, with am maximum of 30 hours of everyday family life, you also have time for yourself: free time, travel, hobbies, language courses and the opportunity to retreat to yourself. We are happy to support you in dealing with authorities, looking for hobbies and connecting you with our circle of friends, ex Au-Pairs and family. Of course, we are also happy if you would like to take part in activities and excursions. As you wish. :) Dad is an industrial engineer and mom is a high school teacher of Spanish and English. She also studied and taught German. She will be happy to help you patiently while learning. Our hobbies are activities with the family, excursions, barbecuing in the garden, being in nature with the dogs or bicycles, playing, music, painting, handicrafts, going swimming, inviting friends, sports, going on excursions, playing games and taking part in cultural life. We have lived abroad a lot ourselves and have a lot of understanding for your situation. You can talk to us about anything, we are open, warm, trustworthy, tolerant (or so we think ;)). We are looking forward to meeting you.

We live in the Southwest of Germany; in fact, in a city called Karlsruhe. The city has> 300,000 inhabitants and is on the border with France. Karlsruhe is a beautiful and big city that has everything to offer your heart desires. We live on the outskirts directly in front of a nature reserve. The tram stop is a 3-minute walk away and there is a train every 10 minutes that will take you directly to the city center in 10-15 minutes. Of course, you can also do a lot by bike or on foot. We live in a very nice house that offers a lot of space and a nice garden. Karlsruhe has several universities with many international students, a large castle with an even larger castle park, many museums, theaters, cinemas, indoor u. Outdoor swimming pools, parks, sports facilities, shopping centers, concerts, markets, cultural centers, bars, restaurants and many recreational opportunities. In the vicinity there are many beautiful sights such as Heidelberg, castles, wine villages, Mercedes Museum, Black Forest, and many, many more excursion destinations that we would like to visit with you or that you can explore yourself with friends!

Job Description

We just have our third au pair, and all the girls stayed one year with us. All of them are living in Germany now and we are warm-heartedly in touch with them. We think the au-pair-program is really great and very enriching, as long as it is fair and trusting for all parties. So far we've only had good experiences. Our au-pairs are an integral part of our family and not "workers". We are very happy that they were (and are) here and think it is a really great experience. If it becomes concrete between you and us, you are welcome to get in touch with our current or (ex-)au-pair.
We would like to have the following skills and experience: A lot of love for children and a lot of childcare experience! The wish to be part of our family and enjoy the German culture and language. We are not looking for anybody who regards this as a mere "job" that has to be done, but who wants to live the family experience with us. We would like to warmly welcome you as a family member in our family. Of course "me-time", hobbies and free time is also important for you to have . ;) Please.being along a lot of reliability, sense of responsibility, punctuality, initiative and creative ideas for activities with the children. Good knowledge of German and good communication. Mutual support in everyday life. We don't expect you to speak perfect German, that's why you come here, but you have to be able to communicate on a basic level with the children. Here you will also attend a suiting German course that we will help finance for you. Many courses are currently taking place online. We also speak Spanish and English. We have also lived abroad and know that this can sometimes be quite difficult, so we understand your situation.

We would like you to bring a certain independence and maturity with you and see where the current needs are and also be flexible when the situation requires it in an emergency. You can rely on us that we will support you in all matters and that your working hours will not be exceeded. Of course, we will support you throughout your stay and will warmly welcome you as part of our family.

Your daily tasks include: Childcare ca. 80% and help in the household ca. 20%. totaling a maximum of 30 hours per week.
In concrete terms, this means, for example: Helping out with the children in the morning, bringing the kids to daycare. Then some help around the house. Usually this consists of a quick clean of the breakfast- and kids stuff, which doesn't take too long . We expect you to be happy to help around the house (just as all family members and as you probably also do it at your home). Our au pair guide, which we are happy to send you in advance, explains in detail what that means. We also have a lovely cleansing lady who comes once a week. You never have to clean the whole house!

There is a regular weekly schedule so that you can plan your own leisure activities, trips, hobbies and language course well. We don't need evening babysitting at the moment. So far, our au pairs have always had free evenings.

We have created an au pair guide that contains all the information about the tasks and everything else you need to know. Transparency is also important to us in advance, so that you have a certain level of security and know exactly what you can expect from us. Overall, it is important to us that you are happy here, doing well and that we are a harmonious team. You can talk about everything with us.

We cover these costs for you monthly:
Pocket money €280
Language course allowance monthly. 70,-€
Monthly bus and train ticket/ approx. €50
Health insurance/liability/au pair insurance
Free board and lodging
Zoo Annual Pass
All child-related admissions/rides
All costs that arise for you on family trips, family holidays e.g. (eating out, entrance fees, sightseeing)
Visa extension costs in Germany
Germany-wide trainticket for regio-trains
