Welcome Letter to the Au Pair

Dear au pair,

From October 1st, 2024 or even mid-September, we would like to welcome you into our family, as our current au pair will unfortunately have completed her year by then.
Our family of three is lively, friendly and fun-loving, multicultural Afro-European. I am German and speak German with the children, we can also speak French. We like to do sports and love trips, which we are happy to take you on if you want. We also like crafts, painting, cooking, playing, singing, cooking, baking... and we would also like to learn new things from you. Communication and cultural exchange, respect and honesty are very important to us.

Our home is in Kehl am Rhein in Baden-Württemberg in the northern Black Forest, right on the French border near Strasbourg. It is about an hour's drive to Karlsruhe and Freiburg, 20 minutes to Offenburg. You can take the tram to Strasbourg. We have a train station. In Kehl you can reach everything on foot from our home. The city is multicultural due to its proximity to France. Many different nations live here and many people speak German and French.

Job Description

We would like a happy au pair who will feel comfortable with us.
You should have experience in childcare, be able to look after the children alone for a few hours, be able to do light household chores such as vacuuming, tidying up, cooking, tidying up the kitchen, hanging up, folding and putting away laundry, doing small shopping at the bakery/butcher and be able to speak French, English and/or German. The children (7 and 9 years old) attend a bilingual German-French primary school, play the violin and do various sports, some of which you will accompany them to in the afternoon.
We should plan vacation wishes in advance. We are happy to take you with us on our vacation trips.
As I sometimes have to work on Saturdays and Sundays, you should be able to look after the children during these times. Otherwise, you have the weekend off, are welcome to accompany us on trips or explore the world without us.
If you feel like it, you are welcome to get creative in our cozy garden if you enjoy it. But you don't have to. You are also welcome to just enjoy the garden.
During the day, the children are at school from Monday to Friday. Then the house is empty. We come home between 3 and 5 p.m. Breakfast and dinner are important to us and then we are at home together.
You can of course attend a German course, which we pay for. If we travel and go on trips together, we will cover the additional costs for you.

You should be friendly, love children, be personable, empathetic, reliable and assertive. We are really looking forward to getting to know you.
