Welcome Letter to the Au Pair

Hello! We are a professional Irish / American couple looking for a caring & responsible au pair to care for our 3 year old boy/girl twins. We live on the family dairy farm in County Limerick, Ireland. We are looking for our next au pair and have had a fantastic experience with our au pairs so far.

We live in a very picturesque area, at the foothills of the Galtee mountains and Ballyhouras, so the location would suit someone interested in the outdoors who enjoys hiking, cycling, and outdoor pursuits. We are a few minutes drive from a nearby village which has a regular bus to Limerick city and connections to Cork city. Cork and Shannon airports are 1 hour away.

Experience with managing two or more children is essential.

We also have a dog and there are lots of other animals (mostly cows) on the farm.

Job Description

Primary task is to look after the twins Monday through Friday which includes meal preparation for them, activities, walks, play time, cleaning up after them and their areas.

They are currently going to pre-school in the mornings so the au pair would help out from 8 until about 9 and then prep for their lunch and help pick them up at 11:45. After lunch the twins have "quiet time" for an hour or so and then the afternoon is spent outside, playing, activities, reading books, etc. until we finish up work around 5.

As they are getting older, one of the big things we'd like from our next au pair is to teach them German or Italian, along with other things like numbers, words, writing, etc.

We include the au pair in meals (we cook dinner every night), but they have the option of cooking for themselves, or of course us (if they ever want to!) at any stage. We are not vegetarians and enjoy tasty, home-cooked dinners and bake regularly. We see the au pair relationship not only as a cultural exchange for them, but also for us. We enjoy learning about their home country and have found that food is a great way to share for both sides.

The role is suitable for someone who enjoys the outdoors, animals, and being active. There is a stable nearby if you are interested in horseback riding and also lots of options for hiking and even excellent mountain bike trails. We also have created a black-and-white photography darkroom in the house which is available to use if that's of interest. Because we live in the countyside, we'd like the help the au pair see and experience Ireland. Our previous au pairs connected with other au pairs and got to travel and see quite a lot during their time with us and they really enjoyed exploring Ireland.
