Welcome Letter to the Au Pair

Hello,

We are a French-Icelandic family with 4 kids, living in Switzerland. We have two boys (11 and 7 years old) and twins, boy and a girl (2 years old). We live in the city of La Chaux-de-Fonds located in the Jura mountains.

We are looking for a responsible, loving, and caring person to help with the everyday running of a big family home. Core responsibilities would be taking care of the twins during the day and assisting during the afternoon/evening (see more detailed description below). Please note you will never been asked to take care of all 4 kids at the same time.

We are an active, multicultural family, that loves various outside activities, i.e., skiing, hiking, and just having fun together. We also enjoy time with friends and having family over.

Job Description

The Au pair will need to help me with the twins in the mornings and help with afternoon /evenings routine some days of the week. Please note, that you will never been asked to take care of all 4 kids alone. I would like to be able to take care of some house cleaning, laundry and food preparation, along with working on my French and practice yoga.

Draft of the daily schedule can bee seen below, but note that this is just an idea, if you have some other requirements we would adjust the schedule accordingly and we can be flexible. Au pair working time in Switzerland is 6 hours a day, 5 days a week, or 5 hours a day, 6 days a week. We do pay French language school and the schedule will be adjusted accordingly along with adjustments due to other possible activities and appointments.

Mondays:
• Morning (8-11): 3 hours taking care of the twins in the morning.
• Evening (5-8): Help with the evening routine, activities for the kids, cooking, bath time, homework, reading before sleep and clean up after the day.
(On Monday nights, our 10-year-old and my husband are away for diving lesson and swimming).

Tuesdays:
• Morning help (7-9): Help to get everyone up and out. Me and the twins go for music school (you would be welcome to join us).
• Afternoon/evening: ?

Wednesdays:
• All the kids are at home after 12.00. So, I would need some help with the day. The city offers plenty of activities for kids on Wednesdays, so the task would sometime be to go with some of the kids for the Wednesday activity or to stay at home with the others. The older boys have hockey and ski club practice in the evening (16:45 – 19:00), so I need to be driving them around and the Au pair would take care of the evening routine of the twins.

Thursdays:
• Morning/afternoon: ?
• Evening (5-8): Help with the evening routine, activities for kids, cooking, bath time, homework, reading before sleep and clean up after the day.
(on Thursday nights, my husband goes out to do sport)

Friday:
• Morning 8-14: Help in general

Weekends: Free time, except other is discussed in advance.

I believe with communication, cooperation, organization along with flexibility, we will figure out the best tasks and schedule that fits everybody’s strength and interest.

Hours and pocket money will be in accordance with the Swiss regulations and the labor rules of the Neuchâtel canton.
It is normally between 550-750 CHF/month depending on the age of the person (less or over 20 years old).

Accommodation

We live in a nice family home in a beautiful neighborhood in La Chaux-de-Fonds in the Jura region. The house is designed on 6 half-floors and has a nice garden.
The Au pair will have a bright bedroom located on the entrance floor of the house, where privacy can be respected. Semiprivate toilets are on the same floor, but showers must be taken on the family sleeping floor of the house.

Our home is located only a few minutes’ walk from the city’s tennis courts, ice skating hall, swimming pool, big green park, forest hikes and sledging slope, and is only 10 minutes from the city centre. Additionally, Neuchâtel Lake is only 20 minutes away by car and 30 min by train. Skiing, especially Nordic skiing can be done 5-10 minutes away.

The city is famous for its watch-making industry, and its architecture (and the architect Le Corbusier) and Jura region is a beautiful place near the French border with many things to explore. The local team is also ice-hockey swiss league champion.
