Welcome Letter to the Au Pair

Dear Future Au Pair,

We’re so glad you’re considering joining our family! We are a warm, multicultural household living in the beautiful countryside outside Linköping, Sweden, with two curious and kind children—Lily (9) and Oscar (6)—and our cat, Rufus.

Starting this September, Laurent will be working away during the week, so we’re looking for someone caring, responsible, and enthusiastic to support us with morning and evening routines, school pickups, and light cooking.

This will be our first time welcoming an au pair, and we’re excited about the opportunity to share our everyday life, languages (French and Swedish), and culture with someone new. We hope it will be a meaningful and enriching experience for all of us.

Our home is in a peaceful area surrounded by nature, yet only 8 km from the lively university city of Linköping. You'll have your own room and bathroom, access to a car, and plenty of freedom to explore the region, attend language classes, or spend time with new friends.

We love being outdoors, sharing family meals, and doing creative things with the kids—whether it’s biking, reading, or music. If this sounds like a good fit for you, we can’t wait to meet you!

Warm regards,
Ebba, Laurent, Lily, Oscar & Rufus

Job Description

Your support will mainly focus on the morning and afternoon routines:

Morning:
Ebba leaves for work around 07:00. Your role would be to help Lily and Oscar get ready for school and ensure they catch the school bus at 07:30, which stops just 20 meters from our home.

Afternoon & Evening:
You would pick up Lily and Oscar from school around 16:00 and spend time with them—either at home or by driving them to their afternoon activities. Ebba usually returns home around 18:00. We would appreciate your help with preparing dinner and supporting the evening routine. Our aim is for Lily and Oscar to be in bed by 19:30 and asleep by 20:00.

Occasionally (about twice per month), Ebba might work a night shift, and in those cases you would handle the full evening routine independently.

Free Time & Involvement:
There is plenty of free time between the morning and afternoon responsibilities, allowing you flexibility to study, attend language classes, explore the area, or meet with friends. You are also warmly invited to join any family activities, such as weekend outings or trips, if you wish. We would love for you to feel like a true part of the family.

Some knowledge of Swedish or French is an advantage. If you're interested in learning, we can support you in finding suitable language courses.

Accommodation

We live in a renovated old schoolhouse in the countryside, about 8 km from the center of Linköping. You will have your own private room and bathroom, as well as access to shared spaces including a modern kitchen, spacious living areas, and a cozy garden.

The house is surrounded by nature, offering a peaceful environment with fresh air and beautiful views. While there’s no direct public transport, we provide access to a car for your personal use—this offers you flexibility to get to town, attend language classes, or meet with friends. On sunny days, you’re also welcome to use a bike if you prefer.

Linköping is a vibrant university city with a lively student community, many cultural activities, and charming cafés. Just north is Norrköping, a twin town known for its industrial heritage and art scene. The region offers plenty to explore: lakes, forests, museums, and even a small ski resort just 30 minutes away for winter fun. The area is also well connected to Stockholm, Gothenburg, and Malmö for weekend trips.
