Welcome Letter to the Au Pair

Dear Au-pair,
please take time to read our whole profile. We are looking for a kind, well organised, tidy, reliable au-pair who genuinely loves tanking care of children. If this sounds like you we would be happy to welcome you as a part of our family. We expect you to be a dependable friend for our children and help us to organize our daily family life. In return we would love you to feel comfortable and happy by respectful and friendly treatment. We want you to have a good time in Austria, to learn our language (German), explore the country and culture and your own interests.

Job Description

Workdays in hospitals start early, so I am obliged to leave home around 06:30 in the morning, Tobias even earlier. It will be your duty to rise with the girls (usually around 6:30) prepare and enjoy breakfast with them, get them ready for the day and send them to school at 07:30. Then you can enjoy your free time (and do a little bit of housework, attend German class) At around 15:00 you would pick up the girls and take them to the playground/ beach or to Ballett/fencing/ music class. Tobias and me are usually returning at 3:30 to 4 pm. We try to have dinner together on a regular basis. Around 8 pm it´s time for bed for the girls.
By arrangement it would be also great if you could babysit them occasionally in the evening.

We are looking for a native english speaking au-pair and basic german skills or an au-pair with good knowledge of german. We are happy to support you in learning german by organizing courses you can attend. Your main duty is to take good care of Sigrid and Iris while we are working, but of course it is highly appreciated if you give us a hand and help us keeping our house a nice home for all of us. Especially cleaning the kitchen after you used it and leaving the bathroom in an acceptable status is a must. Further tasks are hanging up the wet laundry and folding and storing away the girls clothes as well as helping Sigrid and Iris keeping their room tidy and clean.
We would love to see you as part of our family and you are invited to join our family activities, but feel free to say no if you want to fill your time with your own interests.
We will provide you with a ticket for public transport in Linz and have a bike ready for you to use. You can also use the family car upon consultation, though there is usually no need to take the car for activities in and around linz.

In Austria the pocket money that au pairs receive is officially viewed as a salary. This money is therefore paid at the end of each month as a salary. The gross salary of an au pair amounts to 550 EUR per month (status: 2025).
lf the au pair stay lasts a complete year, then a special condition applies: The aupair receives three extra months salary as a bonus, and thus a total of 15 months' payment.

We want you to feel comfortable living with us and understand that it can be demanding to live in a foreign family and unknown culture. So please give us the chance to get to know you and let us participate in your life in Linz. We trust you with our most valuable possession which is our kids. We believe that kids learn the most of the people around them, so please try to be the best role model you can. Good Table-manners, personal hygiene, proper clothing and polite manners are mandatory.
It is very important for us to percieve our girls needs, so we try not to be absorbed by our smartphones in their present. They only watch TV occasionally and play in the house, the garden oder the close playground instead. So we ask you to use your smartphone in their presence as little as possible and you must never hand out your phone to the girls. It is especially important for us to prevent them from the influence of insta, tik tok or similar.

We encourage our girls to be open for new experiences, food, etc. and teach them to treat people and things with respect- we expect the same from you.

We are not vegetarian, but reduced our meat consumption and try to generally buy regional and organic food. I love to cook from scratch and try to prepare a fresh (often vegetarian) dinner for the whole family every day. Having dinner together is an important part of our family life and we enjoy spending time together eating.
