Welcome Letter to the Au Pair

Dear Future Au Pair,

Welcome and thank you for taking the time to get to know our family!

We are a lively and loving family of five, with two wonderful boys aged 3 (nearly 4) and 5, and our eldest daughter who is nearly 18. Our home is also shared with two friendly poodles—one is a show dog with a cheeky personality, and the other is our gentle old man who’s nearly 13 and enjoys a quieter pace of life.

We live in a beautiful detached home in a vibrant village full of energy and community spirit. There’s a bus stop just outside our door that will take you to Cardiff city centre in only 20 minutes. We’re also lucky to be right between the mountains and the coast—each just a 30-minute drive away—making it a perfect spot for anyone who loves nature and variety.

Within walking distance, you’ll find a large adult learning centre, a dance school, karate classes, and other local activities, so there’s plenty to get involved in during your free time. We truly believe this area offers the best of both quiet village life and access to exciting city experiences.

Job Description

Your main role as our au pair will be to care for our two adventurous boys, aged 3 (nearly 4) and 5, who are currently homeschooled. We’re looking for someone who can keep up with their energy, nurture their creativity, and most of all—make their days fun and engaging.

You’ll be spending time with them during the day, either taking them out to parks, local play areas, or enjoying time at home doing arts and crafts, imaginative play, or exploring their many interests. They absolutely love cooking, riding their bikes, scooters, motorbikes, and quads—so someone who enjoys the outdoors and staying active will fit right in!

Your responsibilities will include:
• Planning and supervising play and outings
• Preparing and giving them meals
• Helping with evening routines and getting them ready for bed
• Light tidying up around play and mealtimes

If you enjoy cooking, you’re more than welcome to get involved in the kitchen. Food is a big part of our life—it’s something we love and bond over—so we’re always trying new recipes and sharing meals together as a family.

Accommodation

You’ll have your own private bedroom, complete with a comfortable bed, wardrobe, and TV for your personal use. It’s a cosy space where you can relax and have time to yourself whenever you need.

You’ll also have access to the family bathroom and a downstairs toilet, and are welcome to use all the shared areas of our home.

We have two sitting rooms, so there’s plenty of space to spread out, relax, or enjoy some quiet time—whether you’re watching a film, reading a book, or just unwinding after a fun day with the kids.

We want you to feel completely at home, with the perfect balance of being part of the family and having your own space and privacy.

We have WiFi aswell as a printer/ photocopier if ever you need to use it :)
