Welcome Letter to the Au Pair

Dear Au Pair,

We are looking for a kind, responsible person to replace our wonderful Au Pair who is leaving soon to attend university. We have three adorable kids: one 3-year-old and twins aged 1. We are a patchwork family and our three older girls (aged 8, 11, and 12) are with us 50% of the time needing minimal supervision. Our loyal nanny, who has been with us for 8 years, is also taking care of the kids for a good part of the day.
We have a friendly dog and live in a spacious single-family home with a lovely garden. The future Au Pair will have her own room and dedicated bathroom. We live in a charming village 25km from Bern and 5km from the beautiful town of Solothurn. The bus and train station are just 100 meters from our home, and the village offers supermarkets, shopping, and dining options within walking distance. The language school is in Bern.

Job Description

We are a large, dynamic family with a nanny, a dog, and both parents working full-time (although one of us typically works from home). Our busy lives can make planning ahead a challenge, so flexibility, pragmatism, and stamina are key qualities we value. The main focus of your role will be ensuring the younger children’s safety and happiness—feeding them, changing nappies, and engaging in playful activities. While the older children will occasionally need assistance, they generally require little supervision and our nanny is the one mainly taking care of them.
