Welcome Letter to the Au Pair

London calling: become part of our family adventure!

Hello!, I'm Olga, a single mum to my energetic little girl, Alexandra, who is four years old. We're looking for a friendly and caring female aupair who loves children to join our family.

Let me paint a picture of what that looks like. You’ll be living in Bermondsey in the heart of London, a vibrant city with history around every corner. Imagine strolling along the South Bank, exploring hidden markets, catching a West End show – all while becoming part of a warm, welcoming family.

This isn’t just a job, it’s a cultural exchange. You’ll help Alexandra learn and grow and, in return, we’ll give you a safe, welcoming space to stay, help you to improve your English and provide a central place from which to explore everything London has to offer. Plus:

Alexandra’s in nursery from 8am to 4 pm, weekdays. After a little light housework, those are your free hours to explore London like a true local, learn English, study or take up a new hobby.
You only have one (very easy!) child to look after (most au pairs have two or three).
Every four to five weeks, you’ll have a whole weekend free.
Weekends are flexible. Need a break? Fancy a weekend trip to Paris? We can work around your adventures.
You’ll have £200 pocket money per week, depending on your experience.
I’ll provide delicious Gousto recipe boxes for our meals.
We have an Amazon Prime Video subscription.

Please note: You’ll be sharing a spacious, beautiful, and airy room with Alexandra . We’re happy to send a video in advance for you to have a look. Additionally, weekends will include some childcare responsibilities: on Saturday but completely free on Sunday

But the rewards are incredible. You’ll be making a real difference in our lives, especially mine as a single mum and busy NHS surgeon. We’d love you to become a friend and part of our family. Plus, this is your chance to truly immerse yourself in London’s rich tapestry.

We look forward to hearing from you!

Warm regards,

Olga and Alexandra

Job Description

We are excited to invite a friendly and caring au pair to join our family in Bermondsey, London. If you have pre-settled status or the legal right to stay in the UK, this might be the perfect opportunity for you. This position is ideal for someone who wants a lot of free time during the day to study, explore London, or pursue a new hobby.

Let me take you through what the role involves before going over some key points.

Household duties

During the weekdays (Monday to Friday), I would appreciate your help with a few daily household chores. This includes tidying up the flat, putting laundry away, ironing. We have a fantastic cleaner, Eduarda, who visits us weekly.

Light cooking

Cooking is another area where your help would be fantastic. I have a Gousto membership, which provides easy and healthy meal recipes. You can choose from 83 different recipes and cook two to three times a week. Feel free to freeze the meals for us to enjoy later, and you are always welcome to join us for dinner.

Shared nursery drop-offs and collections

Due to my job, I have a few late afternoon operating sessions (maximum seven times in six weeks). On these days, I might ask you to pick up Alexandra from nursery. Don’t worry, you will have my full schedule in advance to plan your life accordingly.

Every 7 weeks, I have ‘on call’ duties from Monday morning to Friday morning. During this time, I may need you to drop off and collect Alexandra from nursery and keep an eye on her overnight.

Weekend childcare
On weekends, I work from home and value a little ‘me time’. I’d appreciate it if we could share the care of Alexandra – whether that’s playing with her at home or taking her for a walk in the park. Alexandra often visits her godparents, so you may also have Saturdays mostly free.

We usually go out for lunch or dinner on Sundays, which gives you some extra time to yourself.

Additionally, I work ‘on call’ one weekend every seven weeks, during which I might need you to take care of Alexandra.

Job details
Please apply only if you have pre-settled status or legal right to stay in the UK.

Salary
£200 per week, depending on your experience. This also reflects your age (ideally between 18 and 24) and the light childcare involved for just one child.

Benefits
Full accommodation (shared room with Alexandra)
Food provided via Gousto
Amazon Prime Video membership

Travel costs
Not included

Household duties
Everyday/as needed: laundry, ironing, cooking (following Gousto recipes)

Childcare duties
Take Alexandra to and pick her up from nursery on specific days
Be responsible for Alexandra overnight on specific days
Care for Alexandra one weekend every seven weeks
Entertain Alexandra for a few hours on Saturday.

If you have any questions or need further clarification about the role, please don’t hesitate to ask. We want to make sure you feel comfortable and enthusiastic about joining our family.
If the conditions aren’t what you’re looking for, we completely understand and encourage you not to reach out, so we can both save time and find the right fit.

Accommodation

The space
Imagine yourself in a chic, apartment with stunning city views, including a glimpse of the Shard. This is your new home in Bermondsey, a fantastic part of central London. Picture yourself waking up in the large, main bedroom, sharing cosy mornings with Alexandra as the sunlight streams through the windows.

During the week, while I’m busy at work and Alexandra’s at nursery from 8am-4pm, you’ll have the flat to yourself, and plenty of free time to explore and make this vibrant area your own. With easy access to central London via the Jubilee Line (Zone 2), you can dive into the heart of the city whenever you please.
The location
Step outside and wander through Bermondsey’s bustling streets. Picture yourself sampling diverse cuisines at local restaurants, discovering unique finds at charming boutiques, and staying active at a nearby gym or running along the South Bank. Spend your afternoons getting lost in the inspiring art galleries – the Tate Modern is within walking distance – or enjoying a quiet coffee at one of the many delightful cafes.

On Sundays and your weekends off, explore the lively Borough Market, just 10 minutes’ away on foot, picking up fresh produce and gourmet treats. Or, if you’re feeling sporty, head to the nearby tennis courts for a game or two. You could even head to Paris for the weekend on the Eurostar from King’s Cross St Pancras or explore the many other cities, sights and culture that the UK has to offer by train.

This isn’t just a job – it’s an adventure in one of the world’s greatest cities. We are excited to welcome you to our home and this vibrant community!
