Welcome Letter to the Au Pair

Hello!

we are a family of five, myself Gea, my husband Lauro and three young kids (they will be 6, 4 and almost one in the summer 2025). live on our small organic farm up the Pratomagno mountain, in a less known and wild part of Tuscany, in the central Appennines. The farm's main activity is beekeeping, but we also have a small flock of egg layers (chickens) and grow a veggie patch for our own needs. We really look forward to welcoming someone who can help us care for our older children (we will make separate arrangements for the baby) during the school holidays, while enjoying summer mountain life with us!

Job Description

We would need someone to entertain the kids and do some very light household chores during the mornings (8-14 approximately), and then again to help us in the late afternoons with getting the table set and the kids ready for supper and bed. There could be variations depending on the day/week, and on your own needs for being out or do other things, which we would discuss and agree upon together. Living in a relatively isolated place, means that while we would respect and facilitate your free time, you would be rather immersed in our family life and rhythm. Time with the children would include creative play, nature walks and activities, manual arts and crafts, but more in general just a happy and spontaneous approach to spending time with them in and out of the house, while talking to them in English. We are keen on Waldorf or Montessori education approaches, so if you have experience or are curious about these as well, it would be a plus!
Household tasks would be tidying up after the children play (in collaboration with them!), setting the table for lunch, if there is a washing machine to unload put the clothes on the line (again, with the kids), in collaboration with the baby's caregiver who is already doing this now.

Accommodation

Our house was restored with natural and ecological materials and is very spacious and comfortable. You would be staying in a private room on the top floor, with a large double bed. You could have your own private bathroom on the ground floor, just a flight of stairs down from your room. We have a good internet connection.
We live in the middle of the woods, but there are daily buses down to Loro Ciuffenna and we travel up and down a lot and would be able and willing to drive you, but you must be aware that this would be more of an immersion in nature, family and farm life. If you enjoy nature, walks, stunning views, and a close connection to the host family and this mountain community, we might be the right placement for you. I
Spring and summer are lovely, the Ciuffenna river runs close by, and it has some great pools for swimming. We very often have visitors around or go visit friends in the surrounding area as well. We could take you to bus/train stations in the valley (max 30 minutes drive) for you to explore other sites in Tuscany during your free time. Florence is an hour away, and Arezzo is as well.
