Welcome Letter to the Au Pair
Originally translated from Deutsch
Dear au pair applicant,
We are delighted that you are interested in our family as a possible host family. We would like to introduce ourselves to you and give you an insight into our family life.
We are Erika (34 years old) and Max (36 years old), a family of four, and live in a spacious 4-room apartment in the beautiful Munich district of Neuhausen-Nymphenburg. Max is a lawyer, while I, Erika, work in the purchasing department of a real estate investment company.
I have had valuable experience as an au pair myself and spent 12 months in the USA after graduating from school. This time has had a big impact on me and I am now looking forward to giving a young person a similarly enriching experience.
The heart of our family are our two daughters: Philippa, who is discovering the world at two and a half years old, and our Louisa, who is our youngest family member at eight months old.
Our girls go to the nursery from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., which is fortunately only 300 meters from our apartment. As an au pair, you are mainly needed in the afternoons during the week. Your main tasks would be to pick up the children from daycare in the afternoon and spend the afternoon with them. This could include visits to the playground or accompanying them to various activities such as Russian school, gymnastics or music. On the weekends, you would support us with childcare and occasionally look after the children in the evenings.
We parents usually come home around 6:00/6:30 p.m. Having dinner together as a family is very important to us. We love cooking and look forward to sharing this passion with you. The children go to bed between 7:00 and 8:00 p.m., although we parents usually put them to bed.
We love to travel and would love to take you with us on our family vacations. In the summer, the girls have three weeks of summer vacation, which offers a great opportunity to travel together. In winter we often spend time in our holiday apartments: one is in Tyrol and the other in Carinthia, where we all love to ski. On weekends in summer we often go to Lake Starnberg, where we have a boat and spend the warm days on the water.
As an au pair with us, you would not only become part of our everyday life in Munich, but would also have the opportunity to accompany us on our excursions and holidays. We are looking for someone who enjoys working with children, is reliable and likes to gain new experiences.
As there is unfortunately not enough space in our apartment, we have rented a room near our apartment for you.
We offer you the opportunity to improve your German and experience the life of a German family up close. We are also happy to help you find a training or study place if you want to stay in Germany after your au pair year.
We look forward to getting to know you and finding out more about you. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.
With kind regards
Erika, Max, Philippa and Louisa
