Welcome Letter to the Au Pair

Hi,
My name is Dahna and I have a 1 year old son Angus. I am a single parent and I work irregular hours, so am looking for someone to help care for Angus when I am at work.
We are currently building a house in Mount Barker to be completed before Christmas. Mount Barker is a large suburban hub on the edge of rural townships of the Adelaide Hills. It is a 40 minute bus ride into the capital city of South Australia, Adelaide. But there is everything you could possibly think of in Mount Barker including a bus service that you can get to pick you up from close to the house and drop you in the main shopping district.
I am 27 and I work in customer service in Adelaide. If I ever find some free time I like to knit and make things. I have qualifications in teaching and childcare, and am also working towards setting up a business where I can utilise these skills.
Angus is currently 22 months and a pretty sensitive introverted toddler. He loves cuddles, singing and dancing, and going outside. We’ve had no behavioural issues with him, but as he is so shy and a little reserved, he has been a little slow to feel confident learning new things such as talking.
Angus’s dad is a great coparent and cares for Angus on Sundays and every second Wednesday. I currently need care every Thursday and the alternating Wednesdays.
My friend Jenna is also a single parent living within walking distance of my house with a near 2-year old, Elsie. Elsie is very outgoing and independent; she learnt to walk and talk very early on and insists on learning to do things for herself. Elsie has also shown no behavioural issues, she is polite and well mannered.
Jenna currently works in nursing on Mondays and Fridays, so we were hoping my au pair could assist her as well.

Both our households are very focused on natural, child-led parenting. We both aim for minimal toxicity in the house including cleaning products and food (ie. organic). We like our kids to be outside as much as possible and go on walks/ explore. We also focus on talking to our kids and avoid using aggressive disciplinary measures. Alternative medicine is our preferred route of treatment for basic ailments and injuries, but we would be happy to explain that to whoever would suit the role.

To provide more insight into a standard fortnight, here’s a general schedule:
Monday: At Jenna’s house with Elsie from 8 or 9am to 5pm with an aim to provide lunch, facilitate nap time, entertain Elsie, and provide dinner.
Tuesday: no care required
Wednesday: no care required
Thursday: With Angus at home from 8:30am to 7pm with an aim to provide breakfast, spend time outside, provide lunch, put Angus to sleep, play with him and provide dinner.
Friday: At Jenna’s house with Elsie from 8 or 9am to 5pm with an aim to provide lunch, facilitate nap time, entertain Elsie, and provide dinner.
Saturday: no care required
Sunday: no care required

For whoever becomes our au pair I am offering a furnished room (bed, side table, desk, wardrobe) with all amenities and food supply provided in exchange for subsidised care.
I am happy to allow my car to be borrowed with permission if I don’t require it, and I am happy to explain and pay for use of the local on-demand transport system called keoride.
I believe this role would suit someone from a more progressive background as we are the kind of parents who encourage things like open breastfeeding and home schooling. I personally try to steer away from gendered parenting as in I buy a range of toys and clothes suitable for all genders as well.
It would also be nice to have someone around who is happy to chat and be involved sometimes.
Otherwise we are happy to accept people from all walks of life.

I look forward to hearing from you,
Dahna

Accommodation

In my home I am offering a furnished bedroom with a single bed, desk and wardrobe. The house has 500gb of internet allowance, which is included with all other amenities. There is a bathroom directly across from the hall. I have an ensuite, so there shouldn't be much of a clash in sharing the bathroom, but it is the main bathroom and may be used by other people from time to time.
