Welcome Letter to the Au Pair

Dear Au Pair,

We are very excited about the possibility of you joining our family!

We live in the center of Mulhouse, a vibrant and beautiful city in northeastern France, so you'll have easy access to many amenities and local attractions. Here are some details you may find helpful:

- City Center: Our home is located right in the center of Mulhouse, so you’ll be close to shops, restaurants, cafes, and parks. The main square, Place de la Réunion, is only a short walk away, and you’ll find plenty to explore in the city center itself.
- Closest Language School: There are several language schools nearby, and one of the most popular options is L'Alliance Française in Mulhouse, which is just a 10-minute walk from our home. They offer French language courses for all levels, so it’s a great place to practice and improve your language skills while you're here.
- Public Transport: There are both bus and tram stops very close to our home. The nearest bus stop is just a 2-minute walk away, and the main train station is about 10 minutes by foot. From there, you can easily access other parts of France (3hrs to Paris for example) as well as take day trips to nearby cities like Basel (Switzerland) or Freiburg (Germany).

Job Description

The position is for Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday, from 7:00 AM to 6:00 PM. The main responsibility is caring for our one-year-old daughter. We are looking for someone who genuinely loves children, with prior experience being a must. Knowledge of Montessori methods would be a big plus, as we value educational and hands-on approaches to learning.

Our daughter is lively, curious, and very knowledgeable for her age. She has a strong personality and will require your full attention and care. It might seem obvious, but we ask that you avoid using your phone or screens while looking after her. Of course, texting, answering an urgent call, or sending us pictures is fine, but your focus should be on our daughter.

Additional tasks may include:

- Taking our dog for a walk once a day.
- Tidying up and cleaning related to our daughter (such as cleaning her room, ironing her clothes, etc.). We won’t ask you to clean the entire flat or do other household chores.

Although we live in France, we speak exclusively English at home. Ideally, we would love for our au pair to speak fluent German, as we are keen for our daughter to learn the language. I work in a Swiss-German environment and would love to improve my own skills as well.

We are ideally looking for someone long-term, who could become like a family member and build a meaningful connection with us over time.

Accommodation

The au pair will have her own apartment, located on the same floor as ours. The apartment is a two-bedroom, 78m² space, which will be shared with another young person. The apartment has recently undergone full renovation and, while it’s not yet fully finished, it will be completely equipped and ready for your stay.

The apartment will include everything you need for a comfortable living experience, including Wi-Fi. We want to ensure you have a cozy and private space to relax and enjoy your time here.
