Welcome Letter to the Au Pair

Hello from Germany.

We are a family of 6 living in the South of Munich. We are 30mins from the centre of Munich via public transport. We are 5 mins via public transport to Grunwald a tiny little quaint town. Our house is right across from the Tram Stop so it's super easy to access public transport. We live close to a forest on the right and the beautiful Isar river on the left. Large parks and cycle lanes are everywhere.

Job Description

**Job Description:**
What are the duties of an au pair in Germany?

Your responsibilities as an au pair are established by the German government and as such you will not be expected to perform tasks that include heavy manual labour such as yard work, etc. Many German families hire additional help such as cleaning services to assist with maintaining their homes. The main responsibility of the au pair is to provide quality childcare. Some light cleaning duties are included.

Depending on the age of the children and the specific needs of the host family the duties can vary and may include:
- Playing with the children and keeping them safe.
- Preparing simple meals and snacks for the children.
- Taking & picking up the children to/from activities.
- Helping school-aged children with homework.
- Bathing and getting the children dressed.
- Entertain the children and teach them about your culture.
- Taking the children on outings to parks, playgroups and other activities.
- Travelling with your host family on vacations and providing care for their children.

Your host family is likely to also ask you to perform the following household duties that are childcare related:
- Keeping the children’s room clean and tidy.
- Doing the kids' laundry and putting it away afterwards.
- Keeping your own room neat and tidy.
- Do some vacuuming and mopping, especially in the area where the kids have eaten their food.
- Helping out with grocery shopping once in a while.
- Loading and unloading the dishwasher.
- Take out the trash and empty the diaper bin.
- Changing diapers.
- Cleaning up after yourself.
- Researchable by phone (not on off days)
- Watch children weekly for date nights.
- Keeping a record of twins' routine. Feeding, pooping, temp etc.
- Basic kitchen and cooking skills.
