Welcome Letter to the Au Pair
Dear Au Pair,
We are an active family of six living in a suburban town called Needham, about 30-40 minutes outside Boston Massachusetts. Our family consists of Marty (dad), Christina (mom), Artemis (14 years old girl ), Thanos (12 year old boy), Daphne (8 year old girl) and Leo (4). We are looking for an Au pair to be part of the family, connect with us and our kids, ease our daily life but also bring a new cultural experience in our house. We have had multiple Aupairs over the course of 5 years and have very much enjoyed the experience! Now that our kids are getting older, we are looking for someone who can integrate with the family and help us organize our week a bit more smoothly. As an example: have a sense of our weekly schedule to help coordinate pick-ups and drop-offs, ensure kids are ready before they leave for next activity and importantly have a good relationship with the kids etc. Beyond the daily routine however, we would also love if the Aupair can occasionally help us during vacation times and (if Aupair agrees off course ) join us in family trips from time to time.
Daily Schedule:
- Some mornings for an hour or two to get the kids out of the house (7-9 am). The 3 kids have school buses to catch which stop almost outside our home, however Leo (age: 4) needs to be dropped off to daycare and therefore needs coordination.
- Afternoons is the time we need the most help, approximately 2:30-7pm. In the afternoons we need help mainly driving the kids around or picking up from daycare or just being around the house as some of their tutors come in. Because of their kids busy schedule safe driving is very important to us. Every day is a bit different; in general in the afternoons the AuPair will have Artemis (14), Thanos (12) and Daphne (8) coming at home around 2:30pm. After that we will work out together where/if they need to be driven (it may change depending on season and sports activites).
- Weekends: mainly Saturdays we may need help in the mornings driving the kids to activities and then again (occasionally, once a month or so) in the evenings for a date night.
Location: Needham is a small town of about 30 thousand people in the greater Boston area. Needham has a nice town center with restaurants, cafes and other outdoor areas. Our home is a single family home with a lot of space. The home is about 5 minute walk from the train station. The train can take you downtown in about 40 minutes.
Car: We have an additional car that the Au Pair can use to drive the kids around to activities when we are gone for work; but also for her own use on her time off.
Au pair's room: is located in our basement. It is a large room with two windows, where sunlight comes in especially in the afternoon. There is a bathroom in the basement as well. While the bathroom will not be exclusively for the Au pair, since it is in the basement not many of us use it, so there is privacy.
A brief description of our family:
-Marty: enjoys the outdoors for exercising (cross-country ski/ running/tennis) and his favorite past-time: gardening. He also loves playing music (guitar and piano) for all kids and his own entertainment.
- Christina: enjoys exercising in her free time, while also spending a lot of time with kids and trying to keep the house running. Christina was born and raised in Greece and has taught kids Greek as well. As a note: while English is the main language of the house, both languages are spoken.
- Artemis is a very sweet and affectionate girl, who has special needs. You will find her very well natured and loving, however she requires some help with her daily routine. She loves music, watching sports, leafing through books.
- Thanos: at age 12 is generally quite independent. He is an energetic boy with a good sense of humor. He loves engineering challenges, chess, video games, reading, hiking and rock climbing. Thanos also cross-country skis and is part of a ski team, he loves baseball and tennis
- Daphne: is an energetic girls who also cross-country skis as part of a team, is trying to get into softball, likes tennis and arts and crafts.
- Leo is a 4 year old who is very curious and energetic; he will not stop exploring and he is very active.
We are very much looking forward to welcoming you in our family and giving you the opportunity to experience some of the American traditions and holidays, such as Thanksgiving/Halloween etc as well as leaning about your own culture .
Best wishes,
Christina, Marty, Artemis, Thanos, Daphne, Leo
