Welcome Letter to the Au Pair
Dear Au Pair,
We are a family of three. Dad, Alex, is a Finance professional and Mom, Yoomi, is a dentist. Our daughter just had her 2nd birthday in August 2024. We are of Korean heritage, both Parents (Mom and Dad) have lived most of their lives in the USA and internationally outside of Korea. At home we speak both English and Korean, as a result Loah also understands both languages as well.
We currently live in Midtown Manhattan, which is a perfect place to explore the city, because we are close to all public transportation, and in a safe and busy neighborhood. Manhattan you realy do not need a car to live at all, in fact many people prefer to walk to destinations by exploring the city architecture and the liveliness of the streets. The subway system in New York City is old but its also one of the most reliable public transport options in the city, the bus is also very reliable in Manhattan as well. We have lived in many different cities and we truly believe that Manhattan is the most diverse city we lived in, not only from a food perspective, but also from languages to culture to fashion, and art as well.
Our daughter Loah is shy at first, but she is very sweet and warms up to you when she knows you are of a kindred spirit. She follows direction fairly well, and also starts to build her own opinions. She is not afraid to try new things, with some tasks requiring a little introduction or guidance at first.
A typical day for you would start at 7:00am and ends around 3:00pm, while many hours during the day Loah will be at school as well. Both parents work 5 days a week. We usually leave work between 6-8am and get home by 4-6pm. Loah currently attends preschool in the afternoon every day of the week (M-F) from 3-6pm and in the mornings we have her attend some ad-hoc classes/activities as well. Loah still takes naps during the day for 1 to 1.5hrs, typically during the time of 11-2pm. We will ask you to take her to all the classes, drop her off at school, and pick her up from school (although Mom and Dad like to pick her up most of the time). As an extended member of the family we expect keeping the house clean, and help keeping it clean together, participating in household chores together with the family. As you can see, you will have plenty of time for yourself during the days when she is in class, while she sleeps, and when she is at school. Mom and Dad enjoy going out to dinner once in a while, this is our way of spending some quiet time together. We would need you to take care of the children for those occasions and possibly put them to sleep too. We try to make weekend’s family time and so we will go out to eat and enjoy the city and eat together. You are always welcome to join us, that will be up to you. We know you will have things you will want to do in your free time and only have one year in America to do them all ?
Our ideal au pair is very simple to describe. It is someone who will love and care for our daughter, Loah. as if they are her own. We believe in open communication, never hesitate to come to us if you need to ask a question or you need our help in some way. Well, I hope this gave you an idea of what our family is like and how excited we are for you to be a part of it during your year in America. We will do our very best to make you feel like part of the family!
