Welcome Letter to the Au Pair
Hello to our potential Au Pair!
We are so pleased that you have taken a moment to look at our page and that you may consider us as a possible host family. This will be our third time welcoming an au pair to be a part of our family, so we are used to sharing our home and lives with another person and look forward to welcoming you. Please do ask us questions!
One of our key requirements is that our au pair has either the right to live in the UK or EU settled/ pre-settled status under the EU settlement scheme (if European) or is willing to apply for a Youth Mobility Scheme Visa if eligible, which we can help you with the process as best as we can.
We're Piers (37) & Tig (35). We have been together almost 17 years and are parents to two children; a girl (4) and boy (30 months). We met whilst working in the hospitality industry when Piers was a chef and I was waitressing whilst studying at University. Piers left hospitality after 14 years and retrained to work in the IT industry. He comes from a large family (2 brothers and 1 sister) and grew up in Nottinghamshire, though has lived in France for a few months at a time when he worked ski seasons.
I am a Dietitian and currently work at the local hospital. However I have accepted a new role which will mean a family relocation to West Wales (just outside Narbeth) and being full-time from March. I am from Cardiff in Wales but lived in Nottingham for almost 17 years; hence how I ended up meeting Piers. I have family based in Shropshire, who we like to visit once a month at weekends. Being in an Army family, I have lived in a number of places abroad; Germany, Italy and Hong Kong.
We love experiencing different cultures, cuisines and have traveled across parts of Asia, Europe & North America. Prior to having children we were also part of an International Hosting group called Servas international which is built on a philosophy of sharing cultures and hosting people in your home, which links well with the ethos of au pairing. We would love to do more travelling with the children as they become a little older. Nevertheless, we go to Spain each year and often visit the British seaside. We enjoy being active; sports, walking outdoors, yoga and football. We also enjoy cooking, films/series and I also enjoy crafting.
So the children!!
The children are encouraged to try anything to be honest! Our eldest, Anneka, regularly attends cheerleading, a swimming class and is very social and loves having playdates with friends. She loves singing and dance but also anything messy; cooking/baking, painting, play doh, being outdoors etc. Currently, she attends her local school and is loving it. We have a place secured for her at a local Pembrokeshire school which is a 15 minute drive from our new home. Our son, Roscoe, currently attends preschool 3 days per week but will attend playgroup or nursery full time from March unless our au pair is up for some day care up to twice per week too. He attends a swimming class once per week tat present tok. He is a busy boy; on the go, keen to be physically active and outdoors. He is cheeky but loving and very social. He is also a big fan of biscuits!
Ideally, it would be preferable to have an au pair that can provide wrap around care for the children Monday to Friday during school term time E.g. occasional drop offs but predominantly pick-ups, making dinner for the children and begin bedtime routines. During the school holidays we would hope to be supported by the aupair with childcare. A key requirement of the role is being able to drive (manual car/stick shift) and feel able to transport the children to and from their daycare/school. We are open to all applicants (so long as visa requirements can be met), including local/British applicants, who wish to be part of a fun loving and can-do family environment.
Ideally, we would hope that you would become a part of our family and be able to share your culture/way of life and personality with us all. We would love for our children to see you as an older sibling and if possible learn another language from you. If you have a native language, we would prefer that you spoke to them in that the majority of the time and spoke English with the adults. Piers and I would love to be better with our language skills, especially Spanish as we visit Spain so frequently, but we are open to any language and this is not an essential requirement. We would also support you to take the time to undertake any additional studies and integrate into the local community as much or as little as you would like us to.
